no wonder I hate dogs

I would take the dog out in a heartbeat. And I have dogs, and have always had dogs. If you kill my dog because it is on your property, that is OK with me, though I love them. What is wrong in these situations is irresponsible dog owners, not dogs, obviously.

The whole problem with this discussion is that it is the dogs who lose their lives, but the owners who are at fault. I don't see an easy solution to this. We don't kill irresponsible dog owners, but we kill irresponsible dogs. I don't see that changing, as the owners make the laws....

No, it's not the dog's fault. Yes, in this society and situation, usually killing the dog is the only sensible solution. The base problem has to do with poor animal husbandry. Until dog owners take responsibility for the dogs, we will be faced with this.

No-kill shelters and foster care and all that are great -- but they will never be able to deal with the number of predatory dogs out there.

Of course it is following its nature. But in many cases, the only reasonable choice is to shoot the dog, anyway.

Let me know when it is OK to shoot the owner.

Leave a very dead animal out for the dog to roll in. Nature tells it to do this too. The stinkier the better.

If you don't have a dead animal handy, dump out one of those bottle fly traps that has been around for about a month or two. It will gag a maggot. Doggies just love that smell.

Hopefully, rover will make it to their new sofa before the problem is detected.

Maybe after they have to bathe their little baby doggy a couple of times, they will control him.

Here's a story about the neighbors dogs. the neighbors dogs got loose and killed all my chickens. they were sorry at first then decided they weren't. so i filled a civil complaint and sued them for twenty-dollars a chicken. i won. they appealed so i had to file a former complaint through a lawer. still waiting for reply..........but the twenty-dollar chicken is now about a seventy-dollar chicken.

I love dogs.

I hate irresponsible dog owners.

That very problem caused me to lose 10 chickens and one of my pet ducks.

Our dog leaves our chickens alone. Sometimes he'll even take a nap in one of the dusting areas with the chickens. So, I don't think dogs necessarily have to destroy small animals that they encounter. I think that dogs just need to be taught that they can't simply run wild and take whatever they want. They need to know that food/toys are only theirs if the pack leader gives it to them.

So sorry about your birds..

I had a neighbor's dogs come into my yard once and kill 2 beautiful tom turkeys that I paid good money for and 4 turkey hens and 8 chickens. We live on 10 acres and they had free ranged since they were chicks. He tried to say it wasn't his dogs, so he and I took a little walk through the field covered with turkey and chicken feathers that led from my house to his...I have known him for awhile and there was no denying that it was his dogs. I told him politely that if he didn't put his dogs on a lead or chain, that I would take matters into my own hands if I caught them killing my birds again. I have a dog that I love myself. She is penned up if I am not outside with her so I am not dog bashing! My neighbor got my subtle message. They are now on a steel lead in their yard. I have alot of $$$$ and time invested in my birds, especially my silkies. I don't know how much restraint I could show if the same were to happen to them. Thankfully, they do not get to go out to play unless I am right there in the yard with them. And deerman, I hunt and fish so I am a pretty good shot!!! So sorry again for your loss.....

That was Rufus' post about the stinky stuff. So, I guess Rufus will stink up the dog and I'll give the owner a whoopin'.

So very sorry for your losses...

I have a neighbour that thinks walking their German Shorthaired Pointer is to open the door, let him out and a couple of hours later drive up and down the street honking the horn until he jumps in...

Everyone else walks their dogs or have them tied up if they're out.

That's great training Sprout. More people should train their dogs.
