Hello all. Today i had my neighbor complain of my males "talking" all through the night. I must admit they are pretty loud. Is there any advice you can give me to perhaps not make the boys (5 weeks old) constantly be going at 3am?

Thanks

I live in a duplex so we share a wall. They're on the side of the house (only spot my wife allowed me to put them. I leave the red heat lamp on if i know it's going to be a cold night.

Are they feathered out at all? I would try a low-heat heating pad and darkening the pen as much as possible at night. Try and keep it as quiet as possible, too. They start crowing more if there is a stimuli to tell the others about.

I've found my coturnix boys will crow all night regardless of lack of light once the testosterone kicks in. When they get obnoxious enough the extras go to freezer camp. Ahhh, peace and quite!

The roos that are left are set up with 4-7 hens of their own and each covey is housed separately. It's like magic when the young roosters know they have their own harem of hens how quiet they are. Of course you will keep roosters that are well marked, and the best behaved roosters for your quail hens. Any roo that beats up, rolls or otherwise abuses his hens goes into the freezer, they are easy to replace with a nicer roo. I also select for roosters with deep voices. If I have to hear him crow once in a while for the months or years I have him I don't want a shrill voiced roo crowing in my ear while I service their cages!

Ya, a couple made it to the training grounds today with the pup. About 15 to go...until this new hatch from the silver collection from jmf finish hatching these next couple days.
