I forgot to post this yesterday!

Yesterday I had gone out to refill the waterers for everyone and noticed that one of our hens had escaped and was in with the baby chicks and ducklings. Colonel wasn't having any of it so he kept going after the hen to chase her off.

The hen was really scared and had run over to me to stay safe. I took her back to her yard and when I went back into the ducklings & baby chicks' yard, Colonel nipped me on the leg but I didn't mind as it didn't hurt.

Is this normal behavior for a male duckling towards a hen?
He'll be 7 weeks old on Thursday.

Yes they like to show off their dominance . And for nipping you take a broom or long pole in with you an do not let him do that again, your not hitting him your just letting him know your the dominant one not him. So use either to keep him at arms length. I even used the broom to push my drake away when he cameat me. He more than likely saw the hen as a threat.

Male ducks charging and nipping is relatively normal, but can be dangerous. They will catch a mate by the neck and reign them in, no harm intended or they can grab a perceived threat by the neck and try to kill them. I’m not trying to alarm you, but keep an eye on him, especially if he has another bird he singles out or if he ends up much larger than the others where he could accidentally hurt them
