I just got a 5 day old pet bantam duckling yesterday and s/he normally just sits, sleeps and cuddles, but a minute ago after eating s/he got energetic, explored a lot, jumped around, and keeps peeping. Is s/he okay? Am I doing something wrong or is this normal? Thanks in advance.

Also, sorry if this is such a ridiculous question but I want to make sure everything with my duckling is okay because of a traumatic experience with my last duckling.

It sounds like normal ducking behavior.

You only have one duckling?

Would it be possible for you to get her a buddy?
While it's possible to raise them alone they honestly benefit greatly from the company of another duck.

It sounds normal to me. If you put a mirro in her cage or if you have a larger one to stand up behind her cage it might help with the peeping noises. She may enjoy a stuffed animal also to sleep with.

That is normal duckling playing behavior, but I agree that they do much much better if they have a buddy. After all, we can't be with them 24-7, but another duck can. Please consider getting her another duckling buddy. It'll make it much less stressful on you as well so she's not constantly screaming when you leave the room.

Hi all , my parents have x4 two day old call duck ducklings hatched naturally with drake & duke ... Drake seems to be a little boisterous? But not to the extent where there is any sign of harm . Duke is brilliant with them .. They have all eaten , drank and been swimming so all happy but just have a few worries weather we should seperate dad? Is this normal behaviour and do the ducklings need any vaccinations ect. Thanks Rebecca

I would definitely separate dad from mom and ducklings. Drakes will often injure or even kill ducklings and I just don't think it's worth the risk to have him in with them. You can try them all back together again once the little ones are about full size and they can better defend themselves.

Ducks don't require any vaccinations. They are not susceptible to nearly as many diseases and such as chickens.
