Normal gosling behavior?

Is she eating/drinking more than usual or just a normal amount? I think that a sudden increase in appetite can actually be a symptom of gapeworm which you mentioned before... the way she is breathing/gulping and shaking her head it would make sense but I was under the impression that gapeworm is pretty rare in geese. Have you tried shining a flashlight down her throat and looking for red worms? Heavy breathing is concerning... I would be tempted to remove her from the brooder and keep her next to me in the house just in case there is some kind of environmental thing going on?

Not sure where you are but here in Northeast US, normal vets are only open until 7 at best, after that your only options are emergency vets. If you get through to one and the phone staff says they don't see geese, ask them to ask their vet that's currently on call if they could make an exception. Sometimes they will even if they don't normally see geese. So sorry I wish I could offer you more help. I really hope the little darling will be okay.

It seems like she is eating and drinking more but I just assumed that’s her growing body as are the other birds. I have not shined a light down her throat. I just signed up for justanswer and am waiting on response. I appreciate everything you’ve done. Thank you so much for your responses and thoughts and concerns.

If you do see gapeworms in her throat it can be treated with fenbendazole or ivermectin, which you should be able to get at a feed store or pet store, but I would not feel comfortable administering it without a vet's guidance because if there are very many and they all die suddenly, there is a risk of them blocking her trachea and completely preventing her from breathing. I also don't know what the dose would be for a baby but in adult geese I read the dose for ivermectin is: 0.1mg per 10lbs of body weight, and fenbendazole: 10 mg per 2.2lbs of body weight. She may not even be 2 lbs so that would be tricky.

I hope you get a response from justanswer really soon. Please update with how she is if you can, sending positive thoughts your way!

She looks too young to have gape worms unless she has been out on the ground. Cecal poop can really stink. Have you noticed the chicks pecking around her vent area?

Vet said it’s some sort of hard mass in her lower abdomen and that there was nothing they can do but euthanize. They didn’t know what it was but said she won’t make it. I took her home and praying to god for a miracle. I couldn’t let them put her down. I just couldn’t. She’s eating drinking pooping has energy wants to snuggle and everything. I believe do believe in miracles. Strangely her breathing has gotten a little better.

That is very sad news, I'm so sorry. Was doing an x-ray just so you even know what you're up against not an option at all? Maybe they couldn't do anything but what about an avian surgeon?

You are taking such good care of her. I am praying for her as well.

They didn’t want to do anything because of her age. I was in shock and just mortified that they wanted to euthanize and not to mention I had to stay in my car the whole time due to covid.

I’ve still been speaking with vet from justanswer the one I spoke to all night long and she believes Its from an infected yolk sac issue that arises in the egg and at hatching.
