Newhomesteader, you make me very grateful my baby days are over! Not that I don't enjoy playing aunt and holding other people's little ones! I think my kids are afraid that when I'm a Grandma (long, long time from now!) I'll never give them back their kids. Little do they know, enjoying the baby and then handing it back is the best part!

And now, a drum roll please--

::::::::::: (those are drum rolls)

I got an email from the manager at Southern States in Mebane last night! It's official! They will be hosting our flock swap on Saturday, March 10th from nine to noon! I'm so excited!!!

Anyone who lives close, bring your birds or extra chicks or just come keep us company and take home some cookies or brownies! I'm really hoping this will be a nice success so we can have it again, maybe quarterly. Put it on your calenders, please!

Awesome! Will have some extra babies to bring by then! Will definitely be going! Be sure to advertise on Craigslist, Greensboro, Raleigh, and Danville areas

So just a random note here...sure glad we don't get our instructions from dreams...dreamt I was in labor for 4 days with no sign of the baby coming or the labor ending... LOL if that is to happen, Double, you'd better come over with a large animal vet and pull the thing out like they do for horses and cows!! Just saying!! LOL Oh my word!! Just what you all wanted to read this morning!! LOL. I'm going to fall back on the lack of sleep excuse!! Have a great day everyone!!

Sounds like my first one. Amazing how long one can go without sleep, it was not pretty!

Yay!!! So glad you can come! What kind of chicks will you be bringing? I would love to find some sex-linked pullets...plus peafowl, bantam cochin, silkies, and a half dozen other things!

We have white silkie chicks now, and have more white silkies plus some guinea keets in the bator that should have hatched by then. The guineas go fast, but I should be able to hold back some of the silkies for us to bring. They're such cute little balls of fluff, I'm sure they'll attract their share of attention!

The manager said he'd be advertizing it in the paper in Mebane (not sure if he'll also include Burlington, but it sounded like he might) and I'll put it in the Craigslist for Raleigh and Greensboro. Would you mind posting it in the Danville Craigslist? The management start to get cranky when I post the same ad too many places, so that would be very helpful! Of course, no worries if you can't. I'll find ways around any roadblocks.

Yay for chickens and swapping and fun!

CC - congrats on getting the swap put together!! I wish you all the best of luck and a great turn out so you can indeed do this yearly!!

RF - I was really hoping to never hear those horror stories again!! LOL...heard the wonderful ones when I was pregnant with baby #1 and was certain I'd be in labor for at least a year!! LOL To think...I only have to do this about 4 more times before we're done!! LOL

Attempting to make some Amish bread by hand...so far so good...now to keep our fingers crossed to see if it rises like it's suppose to!! Then DD and I are off to Agri-supply for some fencing and misc. gardening supplies to finish up the main garden gate and then to start working on the grain field!! AHHH!! I guess if we manage to grow grain, I'll need a grain mill!!

Let's see how far reaching my black thumb really is before I get my hopes up!! LOL.

Hey guys, ive been gone for a few days, but i got a bunch of RIR and Barbed rock chicks to sell, and ive got a ton of game and bantam roosters i need to reholme if anyone is interested.

I also live in Burnsville. I am up in Pensacola. I am looking for hatching eggs. I have Silkies in the incubator right now. They are due to hatch around March 11th. Do you have hatching eggs or know of someone locally that will sell their eggs to hatch?

A few silkies and a few brahma and brahma X EE chicks. I need to wing sex the 3 standard chicks that hatched yesterday and I can tell you if they are male or female.

I am putting in 9 or 10 white silkie eggs in the incubator tonight, along with 10 bantam favorelle eggs for a friend (just got them from the post office an hour ago)

I may have some mixed silkie/ bantam eggs hatch on the 8th so may have a few day olds to bring with me.

Rex McGinnis in Old Fort has several diff types of chickens..you want his number?

Are you keeping all your silkies?

There will be some I'll be taking to the swap/sale on March 10th but most of what I'm hatching I will be keeping for awhile to grow out, most that is in my bator are partridge silkies from breeders. Also 9 or 10 white eggs going in tonight for my daughter.
