The bigger ones are easter eggers, who knows what color they will be. And I have a feeling some of them are roos

I seem to be really good at hatching boys...

the red with black and the white look like boys

The easiest and best way I know to dispatch a chicken or chick is using ether (starting fluid). Go to your local auto parts and get a can of starting fluid ($2-3). Use a baggie for a chick and a garbage bag for an adult chicken. Put some paper towel in the bag. Spray paper towel well with starting fluid and put the chick/chicken in the bag. (The larger the chicken, the more ether it will require.) Close tightly. They will go to sleep. Occasionally they will flop (muscle reaction) at the end but do not suffer. A chick may only take a couple of minutes---an adult may take 10 minutes.
Be careful to not breathe the ether. Ether was used back in last century to put people asleep for surgery. If they got too much, they did not wake up.

Well I had an unpleasant adventure tonight. One of my bantam hens had broken her hip and was limping really badly. Well I was hoping she would heal but it turned worse to the point she couldn't walk at all so I made the tough decision to put her down. :-(

I tried the old fashioned snap the neck thing... oh dear lord it did not work. I must have done something wrong or she was super hen. She played dead but I seen her breathing... so I went to pick her up and she jumped up and started cackling... so I had to try again.. and once again I thought I had dispatched her.. .I mean I was wringing her neck like no other.. I didn't want her to suffer so I was trying my best to do it quick... again she didn't die... so in a panic I ran in the house and got the axe... it finally did the job.

never again will I do the wringing of the neck method. It was horrible and the worst experience. I felt so bad.... GRR!

Here are a few more pictures of the new chicks

This is the one we think may be part polish. The head feather area looks slightly bigger.

This is one of the cochin mixes. It is yellow with gray/blue on it. Could it end up being a splash color?
