Hello everyone!! How is your night going?

I got my hair cut today and I got some hair color today to cover up the roots that had grown out.

The chicks grow so fast at this point!! They seem to change overnight!

Planning to get an incubator Saturday.

So I have a few questions. How do you test for fertility in your own eggs? Our hens have been laying about 2 weeks now, and we have seen both roosters mounting hens. Would it even be possible that the eggs we are getting could be fertile? Does anyone near me have any hatching eggs available? If so please let me know price and breed(s), mixes would be okay too. We are planning to get a little giant from TSC and an egg turner. We figure we may keep some chicks for our flock and try to sell some too. It depends on what breeds we end up getting though.

First: I would avoid an LG incubator. They are a waste of money.

Second: First eggs can be fertile. Rooster hitting the mark + laying hen = fertile eggs. Testing can be done a couple ways. One is to incubate and see. Second is to let eggs get good and warm for a day and then open them. Look at the yolk for the blastoderm, which is a tiny spot on the egg. A tiny blob is a dud, while a good shaped bullseye means the egg was fertile. Then eat the egg. Waste not, want not.

Once fertility is verified you can start collecting eggs for your setting.
