IT'S HATCH DAY!! Well...so far this morning no more chicks that I can see. Momma did kick out one egg from her nest - far enough away that it's not likely that it rolled away!! I'm guessing a dud?? Anyway...I think I will be making these mama's crazy because I suspect I will be checking on them ALL day long!! Can't wait to see MORE BABIES!!

Oh dear, Ruthann, first it was the chicken disease you caught, we thought we'd cured you of that - you had a baby, now it is the hatching fever, I do not know what to suggest for this current illness, except it is very contaigous

Good morning! Slept in the morning after last night's adventures, and got to feed during a lovely thunderstorm.

DD comes in on the train from DC today, and I think DS is driving in from Boone. Tomorrow AM we scoot down to Ga for Mom's 80th birthday, then DS and I come back same day. I know DD is staying a couple days, but I'm not sure if hubby is staying with her or coming back with me.

He'll need to decide which vehicle he's staying with; we have to take two, but we aren't taking three!

I'm stuck doing housework today, and no getting out of it.

Ah, well. Then it will be done for a short bit. Sometimes I swear the dog hair can breed on it's own!

Is anyone going to the flock swap at the hardware store in castle hayne/wilmington? I am looking for a few more chicks. Preferably dual purpose breeds but good layers definitely. If anyone locally has some youngsters or teenagers I am definitely interested.

Yep I will new there with some 6 week old silkies, partridge cochrin, and buff laced polish.

Just thought I would give you an updated photo of our hatch!! A special thank you to Beth who handled my, "aren't chicks suppose to hatch head first? Will my foot first chick be okay" emergency questions?!?

7 out - 3 boys, 2 girls, 2 chocolate colored ones (BLRW), and one struggling (the foot first chick - in the box).

Hoping one of the 2 mama's will take care of it. The funniest part - the cochin was/is sitting on ALL the unhatched eggs (only 17 in total, they rejected one "dud") and has been sitting on ALL of the chicks. Looks like these 2 will be fighting - I mean sharing the chick raising. Hehe.

ENJOY:
