Good morning anyway, even if it is half-gone!

Yesterday I released the juvenile turkeys, since they are flying well and stressing out all the other birds in Juvenile Detention. I snuck them into the henhouse after dusk when they were sleeping, so they woke up with the chickens. They were in the place they spent several weeks, and when I opened up at dawn yesterday, thinking Sasquatch might pick on them, (which didn't happen) they were reluctant to leave the building. After a few hours, they came out, and wandered the moat, discovering where the water is and wha tthat green stuff is. It was fun to watch them. I was interested in whether they would go back indoors at dusk or if I'd have to pull them out of a tree, but they went back inside to roost for the night. One thing down!

I've lost two of the marans chicks I got at WCA, and one seems to have dislocated its leg. The two I lost just would not eat. I couldn't talk them into it at all, no matter what I brought them. I know I could have tube fed them, but honestly, I'm not doing that and raising up totally stupid birds. The one with the dislocation is getting around okay, eating and drinking well. I've tried to bring it indoors away from the others, but it does NOT like to be separated, so I'm letting it be for now. Don't think I could reduce the dislocation anyway. Little legs are so fragile that I'd likely break it trying.

Got the sheep wormed this morning, and moved the quarentine birds into step-down; bigger quarters until we can get them into their permanent quarters. I don't want to put them in with the adolescents until the fence is ready for them to free range. I don't need a rooster in with a bunch of young cockerels and them not be able to get away from each other! The main flock has been back to free-ranging again with no hawk problems for th elas tseveral days. They are pleased to get back out, and I am relieved when I do my head-count each evening at lock-up.

Since my BIL/SIL/niece are coming tomorrow for several days, I don't know if we'll get the fence done this weekend or not, so I can release the birds in the new henhouse. Niece has a dive meet in Raleigh. I do NOT want to attend, but I may have to in the interest of being polite. I have plenty of stuff to do here, like work on the fence! And the permanent fox-proofing. The temporary stuff is still up. And we can't work on bantam housing until that's done. Priorities!

I need to be doing housework again, but the sun is shining, and I'd rather be outside! Sigh. But the inlaws will be here, and it would be nice if the guest room was actually prepared for guests once again.....

Good morning folks

hope everyone's birds are doing good today

Mary........maybe you should return the favor and make
complaints to the landlord or even any offical types
with what that neighbor does.......always fun to give back
or just start heaping on the kindness and eggs.....
that always confuzzles them....and makes them feel guilty

We have given the old bat eggs.... several times.

I'm interested in the email thing too? To be official wouldn't some official have to send you something in the mail or visit your farm? Or do you have a friend in the office giving you a heads up. I'm almost 1000% sure an email notification can not be considered as any type of notice and may not be real. It would probably still be good to following your zoning rules if you have such a friendly neighbor but things like that get my hackles up and an email seems really out of the ordinary and unenforceable. Knowing the little bit I know about gov. in NC they usually go way overboard with official notices and state visits (and then answer your questions 2 years after you ask them with 12 different answers) although that may just be where I live.

Hubby called the office this morning... the lady was really nice and said she didn't see what the problem was, but said she'd talk to her manager and get back with us this afternoon and let us know for sure.... whether we need this new permit.

On the email.... only thing I can figure out... is hubby put out some of his cards at the grocery store... on the bulletin board.... the old bat must have picked one of those up. His email is on his cards.

The lady did say we'd be getting a letter through regular mail, too.

I do still have the Lavs. I am having a terrible time with fertility myself with my Muscovy and the Sebbies. Just hatched my 1st Muscovy ducklings , hatched 2 from the Lav. Muscovy hens. The ducklings hatched yellow and black & yellow....so don't know who the father is.

The blue drakes are getting processes this weekend. The Sebbies.....ZERO babies. That was just a nightmare itself.

Just had a great harvest on my green beans. They are barely rolling, but I got about 3 cups out of 30 of my vines, and I have 30 more vines I planted 2 weeks behind that should start producing in a week or so. So excited!

We're having cuban roast chicken with garlic mashed potatoes and green beans for dinner. The chicken is the only thing not from my garden.

Even the pepper & garlic rub w/ herbs for the chicken is all from my garden.

Dinner is costing a whole $2.96 (the cost of the cup up chicken).

Sorry, I was just so proud... and to think in a week or 2 I'll have 4 chickens from my own stock to add to another meal and maybe beat that cost.
