North Carolina

Just had a great harvest on my green beans. They are barely rolling, but I got about 3 cups out of 30 of my vines, and I have 30 more vines I planted 2 weeks behind that should start producing in a week or so. So excited!

We're having cuban roast chicken with garlic mashed potatoes and green beans for dinner. The chicken is the only thing not from my garden.

Even the pepper & garlic rub w/ herbs for the chicken is all from my garden.

Dinner is costing a whole $2.96 (the cost of the cup up chicken).

Sorry, I was just so proud... and to think in a week or 2 I'll have 4 chickens from my own stock to add to another meal and maybe beat that cost.

Vfem- you amaze me! I'm so jealous of your gorgeous, productive garden! I wish I could plant a big veggie garden, but the landlord won't have it.

I am glad we are not the only ones that have a productive garden.

So far we are picking squash, zucchini, pickling cucumbers. There are tomatoes growing nicely as are the greeen beans, okra and peppers...... Soon we will be planning our winter garden....

As well as eggs.....

Wild, I can't picture life before my garden. It's not only fun, but it feeds us and it brings me comfort on bad days...

I know exactly what you mean. My mom is a big gardener and when she went through chemo, tending to her flowers and herbs kept her going. Right now I'm working on a 4x6 raised garden table for her. And I'm hoping it isn't to late to plant herbs, tomato and maybe squash or beans!?

I am jealous of you as well!!

Day 1 with my Aunt visiting is down. We spent the past 4 hours trying to get her to make a decision on a quilt she wants me to make for her out of my grandfather's (her dad who passed away from Parkinson's Disease) ties. Came up with a few ideas after a LONG time staring at a bunch of ties....LOL. DH surprised me though...he took today and tomorrow off!! He's such a great guy!!

Chicken news: the two mamas decided they wanted to sleep in the big coop with their babies, so everyone is in that coop and our broody/quarantine coop is empty and ready for some new additions...LOL.

Have a great evening everyone!!

We just got our very first egg...and it was pretty good sized too! Now if I could just figure out who laid it... The possible candidates are one of the three barred rocks or one of the two red sex links. It's such a pretty egg!

Mr. and Mrs. Langdon,

This e-mail is in regards to a complaint that was filed this morning in our office. The complaint stated that your property at 648 Hummingbird Road was being used in violation of the Johnston County zoning regulations. We are aware that you have many types of animals/livestock that you breed, sell, and show. Please know that to continue to sell animals from this property is a violation of the Johnston County Land Development ordinance.

In order to continue to sell the animals, you would need to obtain a special use permit that would allow you to do so. If this is something that you would be interested in doing, please feel free to let me know. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter and look forward to assisting you in any way possible.

what do you plant for a winter garden???

my garden is out of control... Tomato plants are loaded and my peppers plants are producing like crazy i will have enough cayennne peppers to feed the world i am going to pickle and dry some and maybe put one in some of the pickles i am going to have to make out of the 13 cucumber plants i have going.

Cleaned out the watering system for my chickens it was pretty gross. All chickens are doing well and seem very healthy. I did put some med in the water just to be sure. I shoudl start seeing some eggs here soon with in the next couple of weeks.
When should I switch to layer mash?? my girls free range most of the day should i and oyster shell also to there food??
