North Carolina

I go on vacation for 5 days and come back to over 100 posts!!!!

Hollow: =( I recently went and met a lady in raeford and acquired some dark brahma babies so maybe when you're ready we can get some hatching eggs or day olds for you!

when I left for the beach on Wednesday morning Momma Red was sitting on 10 eggs....came home Saturday AM and she's only got 8? No broken shells, no sign of anything......I was thinking maybe a snake, but then remembering when my hens killed a cat I thought the snake would have never had a chance?!?!? PUZZLED...any ideas?

If it helps; I'm happy!
I never feel like I can have enough valuable information.
My son went out to fill feeders and brought one of the crossed hens up with him. He said she was limping. I put her in a confined brooder box with food&water, and she is eating. I did not see anything initially, but I will look her over again later. I hope she will be OK. Her mother was all of our favorite. A light Brahma got her and the babies were beautiful! This is the last surviving because of coyote attacks during the late winter/early spring. Diva lives on through her and her offspring!!!!
Enjoy your babies!

I haven't added up the total in materials, it did take about 20 hrs of labor. A labor of love though. I have actually thought about building more and selling them, I would not make much, but its a fun hobby. Plus I would get to meet other chicken lovers. I thought about taking one to lincolnton in sept to the pow wow down there. Thx for all the nice comments!
no you wouldnt, DH bulids stuff that is better than what you can buy at the hardware stores (lowes and all) but it cost more in the wood alone much less his labor to do it and people around us dont understand why it cost more than Lowes and wont pay for it. But they are cute, good luck with them

In my past experience with helping babies out of eggs (snacks birds etc) they either die or become aggressive when they aren't normally aggressive. Referring mainly to the black snake nest that got crunched when churning the mulch piles. The snakes with unbroken eggs were friendly. The ones with torn shells were biters. I think there is a reason for the bitties not hatching, I think its best to say fair well and leave it at that.

Did anyone make it to WCA today???

Did it have anything interesting?

Meg...........I can bring you eggs when you
need them and I can put them in the package
area by the gate.....just let me know when
you need some......no reason you have to
suffer through "store bought" eggs

I am new on here; When you asked about the WCA; Do you mean one of the auctions?
I need tires on the truck to transport birds, but I know it HAS GONE TOO FAR.... I have to reduce; I have too many.

luke if its a big snake they might not mess with it or it came at night
I was thinking it might have come at night, but that's also when the stray cat got in and the hens did him in.....I mean like when I went out in the morning there was only maybe a little more than half the cat left =(.... I guess I get to go snake hunting after work, I was thinking maybe a smaller snake because it took the bantam eggs when the big brown eggs were left untouched. and you don't think the broody would have done anything? the eggs were gone from right under her =(
