North Carolina

I thought y'all may find this report interesting, it has the major cities of North Carolina and their ordinances/laws on the keeping of Poultry, it breaks them down, compares them, and even ranks them from most lenient, to strictest.

Cities in order from least restrictive to most restrictive.

Least Restrictive
Raleigh
Greensoboro

Good Morning, Everyone!

Lovely starting my day with that little boy's smile! We should all be so happy!

I talked to the new inspector yesterday. We can't test until the 12th of September, due to our scheduling conflicts. Plus, we butchered the remaining birds from the pen the sick birds came from yesterday, and there was one symptomatic (I thought I heard sneezing the other morning...I guess I did), so I want to wait until two weeks have gone by before testing, to see if any others show symptoms. This inspector is even less optimistic than the last guy, and pretty much thinks testing is a waste of our time and his, but he'll do it for me anyway. And, since the turkeys are now on one side of the property and the chickens on the other, he's going to see if they will treat it as two separate areas. That way if the chickens are positive and the turkeys aren't, they'll consider the turkeys as not exposed and I may still get to keep them.

Hubby was laughing at my chicken breed hunting and plans. He reminded me I did all this a decade ago when I chose to raise just Orpingtons, and they've been good chickens. He'd like me to just get Orps again, I think, but I'm still going to try three separate pens/pastures. I told him if they don't work then I'll replace them all with different colored Orps. I do love them; I just want to see what the others are like!

Sigh. It's going to be a long fall.

I also managed to get myself a steam burn down my arm from the middle of my palm halfway to my elbow. Hubby slathered it with Silvadene, and this morning it only feels like a smaller patch is burned. The rest feels better. We'll see when I take the bandages off.

Doing the clean-out and bleaching of the emptied pen today. What fun!

Have a great day everyone!

Thanks; this will help me a lot! Though I am out of the city limits, I know many that are in, and are looking for info. I have been trying to learn all can to help. What else is an education student to do while out of school? Research chickens, and laws. I have learned a lot, and have much more to learn. I am really surprised at how much the boys are learning on our summer project as well. Got to go load up the rest of the birds for the auction.

BHep; He is so happy! Gotta love it!
