Hi all, been MIA since having knee surgery, but I think I am back. My poor babies think I have abandoned them but DH has jumped right in and taken care of them. The second day post op, he came in the door with one of my hens and laid her on my chest, she snuggled in and sat with me for a while.
I have 2 roosters that I need to get rid of, I need a rooster that is not related to my hens. These are 9 weeks old, beautiful and so sweet buff orpingtons. They have been petted and handled and are very nice roosters.
Took me a while to get caught up with all the posts, but finally did, sorry about the snake troubles, I know I have a resident very large black snake, but I haven't seen it in a while. The chicks are too big for it to be a threat to now, but I worried when they were smaller and reinforced my brooders with hardware cloth. The dog has killed 2 possums and a mid sized rat in the past few weeks, she lays them at the bottom of the front steps so that we can't miss praising her for her good job.
We have 3 free ranging EE's that should start laying soon, just hope I can find where when they do. The rooster...Elvis aka Houdini, jumped one of the hens the other day and our Pyrenees bounced at him and woofed. Guess he thought Elvis was hurting Priscilla. I hope that it means they are going to be laying soon, they should be old enough, I think.
Gotta run, let me know if any of you guys are in this area and want my roos.

Happy, ..... Happy, ...... Hap-py!

Just got everyone settled in from the WCA; ya didn't think I would come back empty handed...

Chris (older son) was able to get rid of many extra roosters,
celebrate.gif
........Brought home only 16 new birds (reasonable trade out)?

And he was still able to go in the store and purchase a belt that he wanted, and OH! Yeah!!! Chris had cash left over!!!

Congrats on getting your numbers down! Sooo glad you are enjoying the Chuck....

When it rains, it pours, it seems. I now have a bloated sheep. We've given oil and baking soda, and tummy rubs, and I think things are moving. I hope.

It's my fault, too. I was making sure all the turkeys would go inside for scratch, since we have to catch them up for the inspector. Bob was on the pasture side of the gate, so I opened it for him...and forgot to close it. Not only did the sheep clean out the layer pellets in the automatic feeder, they had access to the garden which is overrun with dreadful things...like Morning Glories. I guess I should be thankful I'm dealing with feed bloat and not poisoning!

Cross your crossables, please. Hubby leaves on another trip in the morning, so this one is on me.

Just quietly planning various courses of action on the poultry front. I don't know which way to jump!
"Probiotics" If you can't find for goat, get for horses and push off a small amount at least 3-4 times per day.
We had a small goat go through that and he looked like he could not stand, and weary eyed. We thought we were going to loose him that night, but I did the belly rubs often, and took him to the vet, and this was what he told me to give him.

This is after; he got much bigger!
.

The night we brought him home it was cold out, an Chris lay with him to put him to sleep. Guess who fell asleep!

The next morning.. I told him to get a shower. He replied, "I don't need one." I retorted, "You slept with a goat."

While I know your situation is not funny, I hope this still gave you a good laugh.

Sorry I didn't go to WCA, unfortunately, between rain, washing our carpets and my husband needing to sleep because he was going to have to work tonight at 8pm... just couldn't manage it.

Starting cleaning the carpets last night, and had to stop at 1 am! Tried to get it done this morning so I could go, but it was 2 before we got it done because of moving all the furniture. Hubby had to goto bed, and I ended up helping DD redo all her clothes in her drawers so she'd be organized for school. Which I am so not ready for, and its right around the corner!!! UGH!

Anyways, I should be going next weekend, my neighbor really wants me to take the bird up there for him... and I have me heart set on a new duck. :)
There were many different ducks. I tried not to pay too much attention to them because I know the hubby does not want me to bring any home. Pheasant, turkeys, peacocks, game birds, great silkies, orphans, dk Brahmas, and many others. They also, had a few goats, and pigs. What kind is your neighbor wanting to get rid of?

Good morning folks

another weekend gone and just doesn't seem like
enough time to get done everything that we
wanted to get done.........oh well we will just keep
at it till it's done. The flood of rain yesterday did
not help.

Hollow.....sorry about the sheep.....hope it gets
better for you.

Hope your day is a good one

Had lots of sheepy diarrhea and a deflated sheep this morning. The standard baking soda/oil combo works well. I'm still leaving them locked up at the barn with hay only for the day...all of them. And I'll be more careful about gates! All the years we've kept sheep, and dairy goats before that, and I've never had a feed bloat. Still, better than a frothy bloat!

The chickens looked at me like I was nuts when I went ahead and opened their door and spread scratch in the dark. They'll be happy when it's waiting for them when the sun gets up.

The mudroom roof is leaking. Again. We had that roof redone and it's still leaking. Hubby is going to check it again before he leaves for the airport this morning.

I still don't have a raincoat for Jake that fits over his harness, so he has to stay home today and I'm back on my sticks. Bummer. So much easier to walk with a dog than with a pair of sticks. I think I'm going to try using a human adult poncho and adapting it to fit him and his harness. Can't hurt to try!

Have a great day everyone!

Good Morning everyone!! I can definitely say it is Monday!! We've had a LONG weekend here with late nights/early mornings with a teether that seems to be wanting to cut molars instead of front teeth!!
th.gif
I was "fortunate" to miss out on the golf outing only because DD#1 was sick and DD#2 decided to reverse her sleeping schedule....LOL

Hollow - so sorry you are having sheep issues, but
celebrate.gif
that it is feeling better today!!

CSB - I agree...the weekends are NEVER long enough!!

Chasity - Congrats on selling some roosters!! I do hope you post pics of all the new ones you've acquired!!

Busy week in store here...we have eggs due to hatch, a few quilts on the table to be cut out and worked on, I am tutoring a college student this week,
celebrate.gif
Adult conversation...oh yeah I am excited, okay, I may be more excited that I am tutoring in English, but SHHH!! LOL I jest, AND the hubby signed me up to make a few cakes for our ice cream social at church this weekend!! At least I cannot complain that I have nothing to do!! hehe
big_smile.png

I hope everyone has a great day!!

Hollow: so glad the little guy is feeling better.
CSB : there is never enough time; always a roll over of things that did not get done.
NH: Good luck with the tutoring, hopefully the student wants the knowledge, and not to be spoon fed. I wonder which English? I enjoyed those classes, and was surprised that I did. I think that having good instructors for Them helped a lot! all were writing intensive!

Have a great day everyone! I am off to find my coffee pot, and a rainy day project for the kids.
