I have to report that as of this evening, the at-risk sheep is now appropriately skinny. The diarrhea I induced to clear the bloat is also starting to clear. Woohoo! Of course, they don't understand why they aren't getting grain today...nor will they understand that tomorrow, but they'll all be okay now. Whew! Those guys are my change-up from chicken and venison for the dinner table!

Evening folks

I am sad to report that my broody Buff Orpington has decided rather than be a mother she would prefer to eat her chicks. Found one dead chick this morning, but this evening as we were locking chickens up, I saw her tearing apart and eating ANOTHER chick!! She has been removed from sitting on eggs and placed backed in the coop. The other broody, the Marans, was sitting on her eggs (I HEARD A CHICK IN THERE) and took all of the 6 eggs from the buff. In total that means she is sitting on a total of 13 eggs, but sadly there are 3 that she just can't puff herself up enough to sit on...I still have high hopes for her!! Any advice from those of you seasoned brooders?!?

I don't know if I could work with teens either. I enjoy first to fifth too much. They are old enough to know the rules, but young enough to still be surprised and happy with new accomplishments. My hat's off to anyone who can successfully teach middle school. And good luck to my children's' new teachers.... they are going to need it. They are not bad kids, but I know, Jacob, the five year old, will call her out if he does not agree. His pre-k teachers were OK with it. They said he just knows what he wants, but I know that this is a new chapter. We will see. Chris is going to be another middle school-er this year, so here we go!

I'm actually looking forward to them going back to school while I have one more semester off!

I have lots of planning to do for the birds, gardens, and green house! I have to map it all out so that it will run smoothly in the spring when I am buried up to my eyeballs in books again.

Let the Marans finish them up. Anyway you could candle the eggs....if there are any clear you could toss them. It is easy in the dark, Mama won't be too beastly and you should be able to see in the eggs good.

Ok you incubating guru's out there, I'm getting ready to do one more hatch to see if I can get my hatch rate 50% or higher before I order hatching eggs. And I'm in need of a couple tips:
1st my main problem is at lockdown, I get the humidity to 60-65% and my temps drop from 99.5 to 95.0. Any way I can keep the temp up? I do use dry incubation, with humididty around 20-25% the 1st 18 days.
2nd- what is a good thermometer/hygrometer reader that won't break the bank?

Anyother tips/hints would be great. Thanks Everyone!
