Being that droopy I would get her on antibiotics immediately. I would also give her a few drops of Poly-vi-Sol. She may need to be wormed as well. Have you checked her vent area? Go over all the bird carefully for anything strange. Smell her head. Open her beak and look down the throat. Then take a sniff. I know it may be odd, but you have to check everything.

Just be ready as it may already be too late. By the time most birds act sick they are well into whatever has them that way.

Sorry, it has been a while since I wrote you back. I have been looking more closely at the flock, and bird behavior, as well as research on line about various diseases. None of which is good of course. I also started another thread earlier today asking for help, and there is a lot of useful info there. For now I have done all I can, and must wait to see what happens. She is quarantined, as are the other 2 injuries, one has been hopping or limping for a few weeks, and is in the yard, another caught her foot in the wire in the bottom of the hutch, but she has company. Hutch is fixed. And of course the one in the picture that is sad.

I'm tired!

Matt... I HAVE to ask...what should she be smelling for ? Why? I assume that is bad? Any info is helpful for us all ..... Thanks

Around the head you are smelling for infection from the sinuses. From the mouth/beak you are smelling for a sour smell up from the crop or an infection smell. Also listen to the lungs for any popping.

Would popping sounds be fluid in the lungs?

Could you palpitate them like other animals and people to break up infection?

... Or would birds be different?

and oh yeah... no! on smells like infection.

The one that hurt her leg somehow a few weeks ago is not as well off as she was. I did not say anything on here, but I was terribly sick not too log ago. I wonder if I could have got the birds sick? I wash hands a lot, and my kids and hubby are OK, but I wonder?

There are just so many things that can happen.

Yes, Popping in the lungs would be fluid. For that I would recommend injections of Tylan 50 and smear VetRx on the head. VetRx is basically vaporub for animals. That breaks up the mucus and the tylan is a very good antibiotic for respiratory infections.

I don't know about palpatating. Birds' ribs can be fragile and a mistake in where you do it could do more damage then good.

I highly doupt you got the birds sick. There are very few things that can pass between mammals and avian.

Can I purchase the injection (where), and could the one with the hurt leg have come down with a secondary after getting hurt. She was not sick a few weeks ago when she started the hopping. This started this week, when the chicks started running her over. She is mild mannered to begin with. She is the one that has the popping sound, not the one from this morning.

I am concern the one in the pics from this morning may have a paralytic prob, and her being a Sebright is not going in her favor. In the past when I have had birds with colds I have put them alone, and gave electrolytes, vitamins, and controled atmosphere. They are happy and on their way in a few days, but these two have worried me to death today!

I've had more problems with predators than illnesses in the birds. I hate them being sick.

Tylan comes in a 50 ml bottle and can be bought at most feed stores. Most Tractor Supplies have it. Also will need Syringes that can give half a CC and needles as small as possible. I have been able to find 25 gauge needles with do well for bantams.

If the first was hurt and keeps getting ran over that would prevent a spain from healing.

Our Easter Egger Henny Penny gave us her first egg. It's a little bitty squirt but I know she's gotta practice to get the size situated. LOL

I have 0.5 cc, but not 25 g. The needles that I have are 20g. (I think these were for the goat).

When I go up to TSC do I look in the fridge? Also, does this have to be injected under the skin, muscle or bone?
