Oh man! How old are your RIR pullets? I might want a few of them too... Speaking of which, I would like 4 of the Buffs. Is it ok if I get them toward the end of next weekend? I don't currently have a quarantine coop and need to put one up... I have Thursday and Friday off next week to work on it. We picked up wood today so I can get started and should be finished toward the end of next weekend.

As for predator, we've narrowed it down to either a bobcat/fox/coyote - I have never seen a fox in our area (of course that doesn't mean they aren't here)

I hope those of you that were in the path of the storms we were in managed to bust out your boats!!
Until this year, we had not seen any fox except for the ones my DH saw while in a tree stand. This spring/summer there have been some out in the field playing a couple of times. We have also seen coyote running along the woodline which is a first for us. The only bobcat we have seen was on the game camera - but we know they are around.

What is up with these afternoon storms????? Like CSB, I can't get the grass mowed and it needs to be mowed.

Glad the rain held off this morning, I finished the coop/run just in time, we're leaving in a couple hours for 15 days!
The babies are loving it outside, fingers crossed everything goes smoothly the next couple of weeks!
Hope everyone enjoys their weekend!!!

DB, I love the wood you made the coop from! it is really pretty! Your chickies look very happy.

Oh, I'm not offended.  And I wasn't trying to knock anyone who sold their chicks for different prices, I was just saying what I see them sell for on average and what I've paid.
Ideal Poultry is $2.85 for small orders of sexed pullet Americaunas, 10 cents more a bird if you vaccinate.
They never even charge me shipping, just a $7 small box fee, which I guess goes to shipping?
An order of 10 Americaunas from them comes to less than $40 with them vaccinated and shipped so still under $4 a chicken.  And you don't have to order 10, they have a $25 order minimum, no breed minimum which is why I like them.  And all their birds are really healthy.
I'm the same way, my chickens are my pets.  Haha I wish I could break even, mine are always a giant money pit, but they definitely are a lot of fun!

I will have to check out their website then, that sounds pretty good!

Tammyfarms...the RIR pullets were from a Nov 9 hatch. But, until my POL birds start contributing, I can't sell them. Once their eggs are being replaced, they can go. They are bossy, though. They will jump up and down at your feet, trying to inspect your hands for treats. Demanding little hussies! And the Buff can wait until you are ready; no worries!

Dutchbunny, the coop is lovely, but I'm more impressed because it's an aromatic wood. Cedar and pine shavings aren't recommended for that reason, as the fumes can kill chicks. How long have you been using the coop? Did you have any problems with it? I really like the look, and we have lots of recycled cedar boards, but even used I've been nervous of using them! If you haven't had issues with it, I may give it a shot, too!

moomoo do you have meat cornish or pure breed cornish (LF or bantam)? also depends on color of the ameraucanas and the araucanas are really hard to breed.

im pretty sure they r pure breeds they r young still yellow beaks and legs not laying yet they may be lf and r white i know i saw some game vornish go for a pretty penny lol and i have a trio of black auricana hens and a blue and red americana roo almost looks like a blrw

2 chicks out, hoping the rest will be hatched by morning. Will get more when she takes them from the nest. I'm so happy to finaly have olive eggers :celebrate. Now if I can get some high quality langshans for plum eggs, so far the only place I've found that offers langshans/plum eggs is greenfire and they are 60$ a chick!!!
