Uh oh! I know not to use cedar bedding but thought the boards were fine. I have a clear coat water proof sealant on it and there's a ton of ventilation so it doesn't have the strong smell like the chips. Once the coating was on I couldn't smell it all. They only went in there yesterday as it took forever to get a day without rain to get the roof on. The framing, roosts & roof are all treated lumber (which is pine) & for sides I attached individual cedar fence pieces. I left the door of the front & put up a baby gate for extra ventilation. I always USSR pine breeding with baby chicks I was told to use that not cedar & never had a problem. Cedar chips have

If you sealed it, it's probably just fine! Didn't mean to make you worry. I should have read more carefully. You did say it was new, and I missed that the first time around.

Good Sunday Morning everyone!!

To those of you who are heading off to WCA - enjoy and have a great time!! To the rest of you...enjoy your Sunday!!

So...I have a question for you all...I have a chicken that is unlike ANY of my other chickens of the same breed. It has longer/thicker legs (its suppose to be a sexed chick) and is a BLW (IF I remember correctly, which I could be wrong here too...it's black with white lacing) - here's the thing. I noticed yesterday that while the feathers on "its" sister are shiny and bright, "its" feathers are dull/muted and there are some metallic looking feathers at the neck and tale (when the sun hits them, the black feathers look greenish). "It" has a pea comb, and I don't remember much about behavior. I have not see it do anything that would lead me to believe it's a hen (never laid an egg, doesn't go into the nesting boxes, etc... but then again, never seen rooster behavior either)...I'm wondering if we might have a rooster based upon the feathering and legs. Is it possibly a hermaphrodite? I tried to get a photo to post, but because the hubby was out building yesterday, they were a tad skittish and wouldn't let anyone close. Can you help without a photo?? I will try to get one today and post it. Thank you in advance!!

wild- are Greenfire's langshans really lying plum eggs?? most dont lay that color anymore. From what I understand, most the langshan breeders have breed away from the plum colored eggs

. If you just want great langshans you should get up with Will (langshanman) on here, he's got really nice ones.

Really weird thing happened last night...although it's really good. Last week I lost all 6 of my hens...they just disappeared.

While sitting outside with the DH we saw one of them...in our yard by the coop.

So I believe my original theory, that they had been abducted by gypsy chickens, may be accurate and they are now escaping because a life on the run really isn't all it's cracked up to be. lol.
