I agree.....looks like a hen and the call you describe also
sounds like a hen. I noticed my turkey hens make a sound
like a chirp and an arp arp arp call.

When can you start sexing turkeys out of curiousity?
Mine are still only like 5 weeks old. At first I thought I had 5 hens and a tom, but only one looks really small, so I'm thinking I got a runt or may have 5 toms on my hands.
If so, hopefully they aren't too loud, they have to make it until my husband gets back in December, I know I can't process them alone

Good morning folks

Seems Mother Nature turned on the water works last night
and it's still running...........I wonder for how long.......everything
was in need of a good watering and now I don't need to do it

Chicken genetics question--

If you breed a pure blue over a pure black, do you get approximately 50/50 blue to black???

I know blue to blue is usually 50% blue, 25% black & 25% splash. (Obviously individual hatch rates vary, but this is the average).
And black to black will produce all black obviously. I don't believe you get splash on a blue to black, you need 2 blues or 2 splashes.
