Hi everyone...

welcome-byc.gif
to everyone!

Congrats on all the chicks.

Jeez....gone for the day and things go crazy on this tread.

So I went to the auction, sold 13 chickens and only came home with 2.

I got 2 bantam red cochins. I kept going back and looking at them. The roosters comb is pale, so I suspected lice/mites or something. I was right. Plus they are thin, but oooo so pretty. I got them anyway and yes they are quarentined. So I dusted them and will start them on wormer tomorrow as a precaution. I made them scambled eggs with romaine lettace and yogurt. Man, were they hungry. They are so calm and friendly. They will get fat, healthy and spoiled here.

I'll get pics in the morning.

I also have 2 bantam white cochin just hatched the evening, and a bunch of pips. And Butterscotch call went into lockdown tonight. It is going to be a circus here the next few days.

We swear by our Neti pots! Although we use the squeeze bottles! Doesn't really bother me, I've been known to floss with spaghetti nose to mouth!!

Memories of really fun times at church camp! Lol

Such cute babies!
Beautiful Brahmas!
Feel better Carolina!
Hope the auction was great!

Not a bear in the pics, just one of my pups, Bella! She's part newfie and very black and furry though - but only about 80 lbs. Here's a better pic of her scoping out the coop!

I think it knows there are chickens on the way. Eeek!

Yes HT I saw your babies and even commented on how precious they are, but I was expecting some pics of Storys chicks since i couldn 't see them being hatched out

BHep I have a little red cochin bantam she is a doll..

HT still waiting on info about my girls, are you coming to the show next sat. and will they be with you? also will they still need a heat lamp? mine are always with their mums so haven't had to do this on my own.. I will have them in the house though. How long should I keep them in and away from the other chickens? I'm not so much worried about them bringing any thing in as I am about my chickens hurting them until they are big enough to take care of themselves..thanks

Yes, I am coming to the show next weekend, just called in my entries a little bit ago, nothing like waiting till the last minute.

Your kids are doing good, I am watching one of them closely this week as it may be starting to look like a boy.
he.gif
That means I will have to find him a home as I have just about as much need for a boy as you do.
lol.png

I will try and get some pictures of them tomorrow, DH is out of town for a few days so I am trying to hold down the fort solo.
wink.png

Oh, they are inside but not under light anymore. If I had room in the barn they would probably be out there but would have lamp to be able to get under just in case they felt they needed it.
smile.png
They are really at a point they could start to be introduced to others before they get too big, maybe day visits with others to start?? No, my birds better not have anything, I work hard at keeping it that way too.
smile.png

Oh please don't think I was insinuating that they did, with them being young though I worry about my birds hurting them but like you say day visits would be a great way for them to meet them and I have a dog x pen that will work for that.. yep I sure don't need any more boys, My 2 roos have gotten into it a few times this last 2 weeks so far dad has come out the winner with JW not being hurt much just a few nips on the wattles. but I don't think another boy would be a good move, wish I could though they are so pretty..

SuperChicky - I still think that is a BEAR... ok, more like a bear cub, but still!!

I cannot believe you managed to get a picture of that hawk/falcon (whatever it might be)!! We have a grey one (with spots to boot) that has been living in our yard. I think it has seen us working on moving and rebuilding our chicken coop and says to itself...free food will be here soon!! Do you plan to get rid of it? If so, how? If not, how do you plan to keep your babies safe? I cannot believe you got that coop...it looks SUPER nice (I see it's potential...that and I have a thing for red/white barns!!)

Wish me luck everyone...I am going to attempt to do some deconstruction (against my husband's wishes...SHHHH) today on the coop while my little one is napping. I'm not too sure how it will go. DH woke up to a flat tire and a phone call telling him his g'ma passed away.
hit.gif
Therefore, deconstruction and consequently construction will be put off for at least a week.
hit.gif
He will be flying home and then flying back here only to fly again for work. <sigh> Not only am I going to be "alone" but it would be the perfect time to cuddle with some chickies. BHep...I might have to come over and cuddle with your Cochins as you know I want some...although the new ones (Bantams I think you said) are CUTE too!! Maybe I'll just have to come cuddle with them!!
gig.gif
So...if anyone has some younger hens that are older than chicks (but not laying ... YET) let me know!!
fl.gif
I might have to take BHep's idea and when DH comes back from his work...have a few in the house...waiting for their own home.
hide.gif
Think that will land me in the dog house? Wait...we don't have one!!

I saw a tip and was wondering if anyone used it. I read where someone freezes a milk jug filled with water and places that in the water for their chickens to keep it cool on really hot/humid days. Has anyone tried that? Does it work? Is it necessary? Just thought I would ask.

I hope the auction went well for everyone. Once I figure out how to find it in Clayton, I expect I will be hanging out and "scoping out" the merchandise!!
clap.gif
Have a great day everyone...it's suppose to be warm here in Central NC...in the 80's!!
