Yes I do believe they are buffs... the box listed them as "Tenn Red Back" What the heck is that??? I knew they were cochin, I googled pictures last night and seen they were no way reds.

I have been fortunate (knock on wood) that my LF orps are usually in an area by themselves so no I have not had to quarantine them. If I did quarantine after every show I would never be out of quarantine...

Then how would I produce my beautiful next show babies.

I think is was batcave that recommended the no withdrawl wormer. I believe it eperenex (sp) or something like that. We use invermectin here as a pour on for lice/mites/wormer but also do use wazene as well. Around here more eggs get incubated than eaten.

If we want eaten eggs we buy them at the store.

I was thinking about just getting the ivernection.... I dusted them last night for lice/mites and started them on wazene this am. So I'll get the ivermectin when I pick up feed and use that in 2 weeks. I have these 4ft round quarentine pens and I just moved them out to a nice sandy area, they are happily dust bathing.

They are SO CUTE!! Yup...I'd addicted. How difficult is it to keep the feet clean? I see that they have tons of feathers on their feet. Is that a necessity? I might have to PM you one of these days and get directions...then again, you might shoo me away after I

all over your flock!! What? No, I came in with this buldge in my jacket...it's moving...nah, just your imagination. What?? How did that cochin get in there??
lau.gif
Okay, I'd never do that but it sure is tempting.... guess I will just have to go to the auction and see the ones you're hatching there. Still not sure if I should get chicks or adults...I LOVE the idea of chickies...but the convenience of adults is alluring too.

too many choices!

Okay ladies and gents...I am going to drag the 150' extension cord out to the coop today and do some massive demo!!

Ok, not really. Today I am putting on extra sturdy gloves and plan to work on taking down the chicken wire (can't do much else since the roof is "sitting" up there...husband started to take it off and realized he wasn't sure how he was going to get it down "solo"...) and re-rolling it for future use. Come to think of it...I'm not sure IF it IS chicken wire...ok, so it's hexagonal wire that I will be taking down and re-rolling!!

Can you tell my DH thinks I am too "fragile" to do much help.

Guess it's just because he's keeping his fingers crossed that I can't do any heavy lifting/work due to a certain 9mo condition...

So going with the showing cochin pics theme, here is a picture I took yesterday of my two lavender boys. One of them is headed to FL later this week. I can't wait to start hatching some babies, just gotta find a girlfriend first... look'n - search'n- not find'n.....

He has small spurs...the hen seems younger..not sure. These are the first I have gotten from an auction. I'm not a fan of buying without knowing some details. The birds I took to sell....I put a bunch of info on their box. Breed...sex...DOB etc. I wish in was required. Oh well...they are just for pretty.. Can't see them winning any ribbons.

HT - they are beautiful. Just out of curiosity (still learning here) why are they called lavender?

Lavender is their color. There are lots of breeds that come in lavender, I also have lavender orpingtons. I know it may look gray or silver/gray but someone along the way decided it was "lavender".
