GORGEOUS!
I wish the hens were as pretty as the roosters, I'd love to have one, but no boys for me yet

I think the hens are very pretty too as they do get that beautiful
sheen to the feathers on the blacks.

Looks like we got 5" today before it started to freezing rain on us. I'd be loving the view a lot more if hubby wasn't stuck trying to drive through Raleigh in it. :/ He left early this morning for work, but no flights leaving RDU for JFK because of the weather. He's trying to make it to his cousins house in Cary, but between the roads and the other drivers (personally think those are scarier than the ice/snow) and all the accidents...

Chickens got out a bit this morning, but as soon as the snow started coming down this afternoon they huddled up in the coop. Occasionally I'd see them standing in the doorway munching the snow that had gathered on the stoop.

And.... Just because the snow doesn't stick together, doesn't mean you can't make a snowman. This is what my 5y.o. came up with when nature told him he couldn't make a snowman today:

That is so adorable......and he's a thinker......smart cookie

As I am currently home schooling I can lend a couple ideas:

Try taping down a hopscotch board with painters tape or masking tape.  They can use a wadded up piece of paper as a marker.  Will get them active, takes minimal time to prep.  Cleanup is pretty quick and easy as well.  Masking tape will leave a residue if you leave it overnight or longer though.

Give them a couple pillows and let them have a pillow fight.

There are some great ones in this article too:

Us, too. Besides having schooling to, there are always chores. :D I love the idea of a toy library.

Your kids are a lot younger, but mine have IPods and tablets, in addition to tge other electronics. I know we've been doing some baking, and then yesterday was vet day -twice- for our poor little man who has pneumonia which led to coughing blood which led to a nighttime trip to Wilson. And he was dxed with heartworm yesterday, so that's next. *sigh*

Y'all won't believe how many birds came to the feeder station today. It snowed A LOT and they stayed at the feeders all day. Here are the breeds that came:

• Carolina Chickadee
• American Tree Sparrow
• Northern Cardinal
• Cowbird
• White-crowned Sparrow
• Red-winged Blackbird
• American Goldfinch

We provide them with a mix of seeds including millet, barley and wheat, nyjer, (not cooked) oatmeal and corn.

We currently have around 50 tree sparrows that have been swarming around the chicken run lately. They keep sneaking in the gaps in the netting over the run to get at the scratch or whatever is down for the chickens. Then they get stuck in the netting trying to get back out again when I come out to check on the ones that are SUPPOSED to be eating the scratch. We also get tons of woodpeckers and cardinals around here as well. I need to start taking my camera out there with me.
