North Carolina

thanks .. i guess we may just take her and see how she does.. it will be our first show ever. she is my sons bird he will b in the jr . i think theres some type of blood tests for disease or something we have to do isnt there? if so if you know how and when and where do we do this.. and do i need to join the apa prior to the show..i had the wrong date entirely.. wowzer..also is there a seperate category for the pullets or would she be judged with the adult hens?

Pullets, cockerels, Cocks, and Hens are judged separately, then together for the best of that variety, then all the best and reserve varieties are judged for best and reserve of class, then those are judged for best of show. best of juniors in your case.

In-State you can be tested at the door. The state Vet will there to test/band any in-state birds that need it. Out-of-state need to be tested and certified before hand. The testing is a poke to a vein under the wing to get a good drop of blood and a throat swab for the AI test. I always had a napkin ready, since some birds can be thin blooded and bleed more then that one drop. 2 extra drops spreads a LONG way on feathers and some judges can't see past blood on feathers. Just put the napkin under the wing a couple seconds to catch any extra drops.

I think the show contact is Mark East: 336-341-2981
Call for a show catalog. All birds must be registered before hand and the registration cut-off is normally the Sunday before the show, so March 23rd.

Hope everyone had a good weekend. Seems we are
in for a bit more of winter.....guess that groundhog may
have been right this time. We had an interesting weekend
and went to see the Unifour show, then we meandered
our way back, stopping at a couple of interesting what-not
places........I love oogling that stuff.

Counted my chickens last night. I can proudly say, I am down to 107. 46 are Large fowl, 61 are bantams. (39 are Serama)
I still have a few roosters to grow out and sell and also decide if I will continue with some projects or breeds.

Also:
9 geese
9 Muscovy
5 Peacocks
7 Pidgeons
6 Pheasants
and a bunch of Quail

This does not include chicks and eggs...they don't count yet.

DOWN to 107!!!!!! Scared to hear how much it used to be!!! ;)

I am down to 24 which is lowest I've been since this time last year! I had double that during last summer and fall! :)

I only have 11 total and 2 of the silkie hens that I'm not keeping get picked up today leaving 9.. so the folks that think I have a chicken hoarding problem r wrong. Hehe ..now after the Easter hatch along.. it could be different.lol. I hate this subdivision. I need a pasture for a mini farm.

I haven't counted mine in forever. I know I have 13 mature roosters. I'm rearranging birds this week. I'll try to get a count. I'm guessing between 70-80.

That could easily turn into 100 when you count.   I swore I had under 100.

:gig
So true!
It's happened to me before! I'd like to be up to around 150 or so before summers end. But I want them in specific breeds, not just haphazard. So I have to count my breeds.
