Looking to see if any of you chicken folk have any better ideas than what I have come up with. My Chickens have a large run that is connected to my home and lately they have been hopping the fence. They stay in the yard but I am afraid a neighborhood dog will get them. (I am increasing their space as often as I can get a hold of chainlink fence, but I think they just like to hop the fence, rebels I swear!) I have tried clipping wings but they can still hop the fence. I was thinking of getting the driveway marker poles and attaching them to poles of the fence and running fishing line about 6" above the fence to keep them hopping over. The markers are $2 each and I need 20 I think. So my question is does anyone have an idea of something else I could attach to the fence to attach the fishing line to that might be cheaper than the driveway markers but hold up to the weather.

How tall is your fence?? Sounds like 3 or 4 ft?? You need a taller fence. I would not do the fishing line, as I can just see all kinds of trouble with birds getting caught in it and getting hurt or dying. Just my two cents.

Counted my chickens last night. I can proudly say, I am down to 107. 46 are Large fowl, 61 are bantams. (39 are Serama)
I still have a few roosters to grow out and sell and also decide if I will continue with some projects or breeds.

Also:
9 geese
9 Muscovy
5 Peacocks
7 Pidgeons
6 Pheasants
and a bunch of Quail

This does not include chicks and eggs...they don't count yet.

I AM NOT counting birds!

I second that. It needs to be something they can see and not get tangled in. Or, depending on how big your run is, you can get bird netting for over the top.
I think you should definitely use bird netting. I had a problem with a hen jumping my 6ft+ fence and a hawk problem. I used bird netting and solved both at the same time.
