But the good news is there are lots of others on here that are from the west side of the state, so near your neck of the woods.

We're getting the bees from a farm in Coats. They are offering a bee keeping class and it includes 3 lbs of bees and a queen when you finish the course. How exciting! I've worked with them before with my canning.

Lucky hubby is so good with the carpentry... he built all our coops, my garden beds and remodeled our house. Couldn't have fallin' in love with a better man (or a more useful one! LOL).

But its nice to know I'm expecting chicks this week, and again in 2 weeks. That really does make everything seem like spring to me.

well don't forget pics vfem cause those of us who aren't hatching need our fix.... last year at this time I had at least 2 broody hens this year naw they'd rather run around outside and play... haven't checked eggs yet Ruth, still have a hen in the nest box..

Ok BYC'ers...I need you all to start praying REALLY HARD. I let my husband play around with googlesketch so he could design the coop (since we don't have then engineering program he's use to). Anyway, he just messaged me and said he thinks the coop & chickens are going to be too expensive. Now he's having second thoughts.

He had to head back into a meeting but said, "we'll talk about it later..." that's never a good sign, is it?? Hmm...maybe I'll just have to remind him that I already committed us to taking a few chicks off of someone...maybe that will sway him.

Ok...my day went from comical to really sad.

I'll keep you posted after we "talk".

When my husband and I were discussing getting chickens/building a coop he had some sticker shock also... still does, actually. But now we're almost finished and I plan on getting some hens this weekend. Not sure where I'll find them yet, but I'm going to try, anyways.

Praying for you!

okay don't give up yet, when he sees how much this means to you and how much more healthy fresh eggs are for you all. Hopefully he'll come around. And you can always compromise on size if finances are a problem.. I have a bumper sticker from BYC that says BYC is Cheep therapy. I say chickens are... hang on and believe me when I say most everything I had wanted to do here when it came to my chickens and ducks was like pulling teeth, but it all worked out in the end..

Ask him what he thinks it will cost for the coop for him to build it himself. Suggest 'free materials' from a search on craigslist or cheaper wood that way. Find out how big you have to go, maybe cut back on how many chickens if it helps cut costs. Sometimes, its cheaper to buy a premade if you look online. Ask him before he goes over board to tell him to tell you what he thinks a reasonable amount it for the coop & birds. Face this as a negotiation... because you can have birds and a coop at any budget. It doesn't have to be over the top equipment or materials or sizes!

Our coop cost $93! Check out our BYC coop page.

It's neither I guess. I needed to get my fish list updated, but ended up out there for quite awhile today. Wasn't a normal client, just an "emergency" call.
