@FVRM I think I saw some wheaten Americaunas on Craigslist... hatching eggs maybe they were? I'm up in Linden Oaks housing in Cameron, let me know if you need someone to hatch them out for you and I'd be more than happy to hatch some for you if needed.

FVRM, the people that let me down last fall on the Wheaten/Blue Wheatens has caught up and will be setting me some later into the spring...unless they forget again. I'll remember you need a roo, as I'm sure there will be extras! I'll also be ordering from someone else even later (hatching eggs only) if you want a different bloodline. this one pays attention to egg color, and her birds look good. Further north, though, so must wait.

FVRM- I'll likely also have extra Wheaten Am Roos from my hatch in April...

cpolanco3 can you find out if they are true wheatens or easter eggers?

rainbow and hollow let me know how the hatchings/chicks turn out. cause i will definitely need one

I've been scouring the listings on CL and haven't found what i thought i had seen. I must have found them here on the BYC BST listings. hmmmm.

I do have a friend that has a couple of wheaten Americanas that she got from the Poultry man down in Fayetteville though. She doesn't have fertile eggs cause she only has hens.

Maybe try the poultry guy out there?

Hi Everyone! I live north of Greensboro. Glad to be here!

Just a hop, skip, and a jump away from me in Randleman! Hello over there!

As for what I'm hatching... just had a variety clutch of Silkie/Frizzle/Faverolles combinations to hatch last week. My hens have been insisting on brooding ALL. WINTER. LONG. 6_9 Those girls drive me crazy!

Does anyone use any kind of heating system/device in their chicken coop? If so what do you use. I know heating lamps are a fire hazard, so I am trying to avoid those. Thanks.
If I have young chickens outside, I have put some rice socks out with them to curl up to get some heat. Warm it up in the microwave and it is warm for a good while. I don't really worry about it though since the majority of my chickens seem to prefer to sleep ON the coops rather than in them. Even this morning when I went to check on them, I saw a third of them still outside. Good thing their run is secure enough that I haven't had problems with this arrangement. Dummies leave one completely empty and only one or two in another one. SMH!!!

Here in randleman as well :)
The winds here was crazy last night... Took down out pasture gate... Oh I was so hoping winter would miss us! Hope everyone is warm and safe!

No heating the coops, not for me. I have a coop that keeps them out of the wind and so far so good. I do have a light under a water bucket in the enclosed run so they can get water. Their feathers do the job of keeping them warm. Think about the birds that are out in the weather such as turkeys, red birds, finches, etc. They do not freeze except when they get sick or injured.

I usually don't heat my coops, but I am a little worried about my bantams. I'm thinking of putting something in their coop, at least for this week, with it getting so cold.
