If I have young chickens outside, I have put some rice socks out with them to curl up to get some heat. Warm it up in the microwave and it is warm for a good while. I don't really worry about it though since the majority of my chickens seem to prefer to sleep ON the coops rather than in them. Even this morning when I went to check on them, I saw a third of them still outside. Good thing their run is secure enough that I haven't had problems with this arrangement. Dummies leave one completely empty and only one or two in another one. SMH!!!
Try putting them IN the coop at night. After a few times they learn it's better to sleep in it than on top of it. I thought my run was secure too so i let them sleep on the roof at night and an owl got one of my roos. It had netting but i guess it was close enough to give it access to the it.

Hi Claudia,

You were right... I remembered seeing the ad too!

I may be down that way, so if anyone is interested and wants me to pick some up I can meet in the triad area.

Is this the ad claudia? They are not pure bred wheatens but they are really good looking easter eggers. Nice beards and body types. this is what all the hens look like

For FVRM, I can't. For one thing, I work nights. I'm at work before they head to roost. Another, on my nights off, I've gone out there and I've never seen them all asleep at the same time regardless of the time. It looks like they sleep in shifts. I start walking toward the houses and all of them are awake before I can ever open the door. Before I had this run, they all used to free-range and 98% if them would all sleep in the trees. In ten years, I never lost one at night.

I would love to add a few frizzles to my flock this summer, so I may be chatting with you later about some swaps. Are you having fun with the fuzzy butts? :p

Lol yes it's so neat to see how quickly they change and grow from day to day! Just let me know when you are ready. I'm happy to work something out!
(I'm hoping to make sure there are no Frazzles before I let them go anyway.) I usually do the Flock Swap at the Asheboro TSC through the warm months too!

The wind was indeed terrible last night! Thankfully nothing was broken here, but some limbs are lying around the yard now. I hope this snow they're calling for ends up being just snow... I hate the ice!!!

I guess it's just my area. Aerial predators are the only ones I have here.

We have bears, coons, foxes, lynx, hawks, owls, coyotes, dogs, well, you get the message. The only chickens I've lost were in the day. So I guess the chickens have it all figured out.
