I have a bantam hen that just hatched out 1 chick on Tues. She seem fine with the 1. She is a first timer.
I don't know about letting your girl sit another 21 days. Does she get off the nest to eat & drink... thats what I would be worried about. Any other girls sitting on egg, maybe steal one and give it to her. Too bad you are so far.... I have too many chicks

Oh, I'm sorry ML! Where are you located? Maybe we can all help you find some chicks! Poor sweet hens!

SJMarshall! Good luck with your chicks! I wish I had some advice for ya but I'm a newbie. Hope it's just a little cold!

Congrats on your hatch, olf!!!

I am in Burnsville scm, about 45 miles from Asheville NE. I am thinking I will just take these eggs tomorrow and put her outside with the rest of the flock, I had to put her into our small coop and lock her up because she was trying to take another hens chicks. So no telling what she'll do tomorrow.

No expert here but I do know of a chicken person who has hens that INSIST on sitting and will do so continuiously on many batches of eggs, one after another. The breeder makes sure to put water and feed near these hens as it is impossible to get them to leave a nest. They will steal eggs just so they can sit again.

Good luck with your girl

Well thanks Coop, That gives me hope. I was thinking about waiting till over the weekend and see how she is doing. I have food and water inside the coop with her.

Thanks HT but think thats a little far for me for a couple of chicks, although I know they would be nice birds. I am going to call a feed store in the next county over from us and see if they have chicks and what kind. we'll see. I just wish I'd watched my roo closer when he was with the Brahmas.
