North Carolina

I have had chickens for 12 years. I had ducks & geese back in 2003 for a year. Then I just started hatching ducklings this past Dec. & goslings this month.

And I have 4 peacocks, a horse, a rabbit, 2 turtles, 12 dogs & 6 cats. Also 3 children. I am not counting my chickens, I know its 100 plus

Life is flying by! Mom got back to the rehab yesterday. A bit tired today from her workouts. Dad is getting around great, just needs mom home and he will be good! Thanks for all y'alls thoughts and prayers!!!!
Brunswick is getting huge. Ray has her the 11 EEs. He crows often. Conan and crew are great! And the newly married silkies William and Kate love there special accommodations on the covered porch! They too were living together before the date!!!

Gonna try to catch up soon, but work is wide open right now!

Happy Friday! Cute chicks everybody!!

Bhep - I am a little shocked at just how many critters you've got over there!!!

How fun!!! I am seriously jealous over here!!

I've got lots of pics to share. They're a couple of days old now and they've already changed so much!!! They grow up so fast! <sniff sniff>

Here's my big boy! He is a Welsummer and there is zero doubt he's a boy. I think he is so funny and love watching him. Sad he's going to have to find a new home. Check out the comb on this guy! He's now 3 weeks old but 2 1/2 in the pic.

Here is what I think might be the only Welsummer girl (1 other who's comb is getting pretty big, too) for comparison.

Here he is watching over everyone. Check out how much crazy bigger his comb is than the couple others you can see in the pic!

The *girl* Welsummer is in the top left corner and the other 2 are BLRWs. I can't believe how different their coloring is. I have one more that is also dark like the one in the bottom of the pic.

Here's a FBCM that I'm hoping is a girl. I know they're young still but she and her comb are much smaller than the other one.

And here's one of the little guys - 2 of the 4 Ameraucanas and 1 little EE. They are such sweeties!

We're hosting a company bbq here at the house tomorrow so we've been crazily trying to get things in order - no small task after the past couple of weeks we've had. But I hope you all have a great weekend! And if you see any boy/girl stuff I'm missing in my chicks please let me know! And if any of you are interested in any of my possible boys let me know that, too! I have no clue about most of them. The others not pictured are Light/Coronation split Sussex (yellow ones - maybe my faves so far - very friendly and inquisitive), black/lav split Orpingtons and a French Blue Copper Marans.

Have a great weekend!! Hope tomorrow is just as gorgeous!!

Great pics SCM and yes you have your beautiful day..... Enjoy your BBQ.
The BLRW come in Blue, Black & Splash. I would say the lighter are Splash, they others are Blue. They don't start show their colors until they are way over a month. I have some hathced 3/17 and still look like chipmonks. Are the Ameracaunas Lavender?

I love those pictures scm, such pretty colors. why can't you keep roos? too close to neighbors? Well BHep I now have 33 chickens, can't believe I said that

I know I'll have to find homes for some but will wait a while till they are quiet a bit older before thinking about that. I did go out yesterday and reconfigure my coop so there are more roosting places just in case I have more girls. And my little hen is still sitting, I only had 2 bantam eggs yesterday so I stuck them under her, will open the pop door again today to see if she wants to come out or give it up. I hope she'll be okay sitting so long.

and Story so good to hear about you mom and dad, sorry there won't be ducklings for mothers day but guess it's for the best right now, just happy to hear things are improving.
looks like it's going to be a beautiful day although it's 40* right now.

I guess I could count my chickens, but I am afraid of the results. I will wait until my kids are up and have them "help". The answer should be interesting. Until later..............

WOW! 100 plus chickens! I hope you really like eggs!

I'm sitting here figuring the amount of eggs I will end up with once everything is all said and done with 30 chickens...

I think I am going to have to be the "egg lady" lol...

sj, you'll be surprised how many will be wanting your eggs. and boy do they taste good. no comparison between even the free range ones that you buy in the store and the home grown ones right out your back door.

and am really looking forward to hearing the count on BHep chickens. I started out with 11 chickens mama hen and her 10 chicks, and in almost 2 years have 33 so I guess thats not too bad. Would reallt like to have a barn though. our coop is just about maxed out. Living in the mtns. don't have alot of flat land to build on though.

forgot to ask do your roos get along okay? wwe have 2 roos father and son and they have their moments but still share the same coop. so not too bad.

The good thing is they don't all stay, I like to spread my joy around.

Speaking of spreading, I'm getting to the word out for a friend, she has Serama's and Lavender Orpington chicks looking for new homes. She is in the Lexington, NC area.
