to all the new people that I missed welcoming while I was away!!
Congrats to all the new hatches & growing ones.
Sorry to those of you who suffered losses recently.
Wow. Do you know how hard it is to go away for a few days and try to play catch up with everyone??
Apparently you all are trying to tell me that I am not allowed to go away ... EVER!!
The wedding was so sweet and we all had a wonderful time. My DD spent the wedding flirting with the photographers who would occassionally snap photos of her...she just thought the "mountain man" photographer was adorable...he would walk by and she would bat her eyes, giggle, point and "pose" for him.
I think I need to start building that tower to keep her away from the boys...if she does this now, there's not telling what she'll do when she turns ONE!!
We did have a party for her with grandpa & grandma and I am
with my MIL...I kept telling her she hasn't been introduced to certain foods yet because of her allergies......so DH and I leave for a date (
first one in FOREVER) and when we get back...she was COVERED in hives (2 days later...she still has them)...worse, Grandma "can't remember" (I don't buy this) what she did/gave that could have caused it.
Now I don't know if it was from the eggs in the cake (we refused to let her have the frosting...too sugary anyway) or because she's only been fed a strict diet, or what. UGH. She claimed it was a heat rash. As if you can't tell the difference between hives (welts....which I also get) or a heat rash. Seriously?? Okay...got it off my chest, now I feel better.
thanks everyone!!
I am SO HAPPY to report that all of our boys & girls are doing well. I was VERY nervous that we'd come home to find a coop filled with dead chickens. The neighbor man did a nice job (or they fended nicely for themselves) taking care of them. They had TONS of water and food...lol. I am also happy to report that we had our first encounter with a small cat-bear (aka coon) last night. I went to check on the gang this morning and let everyone out...well I pulled the feed out last night to check on it (was hoping to order some from Reedy's to see what the feed is like) and sure enough the lid was completely off (it's not an easy lid to get off...but then again coons are good with their hands) and about 1/4 of the feed was gone. Lesson learned, I put the feed back into the barn and will be extra vigilant in the coming days only because now the coons know there is food out here!!
Okay BYC'ers....need advice. This morning I encountered a problem with Jeremy, Cotton-Tail and Timmy... Jeremy is definitely the HEAD rooster and today (this is the first time it's happened that I have SEEN) he actually chased and attacked the other two boys when they tried to "announce" the morning (aka crow). I am beginning to suspect that this has been going on for a bit at least between Jeremy and Timmy - remember how I was worried Timmy wasn't crowing.... Is it because they are getting closer to being fully mature and they are going to start fighting? Fortunately all that happened was Jeremy Fisher chased and pecked the other two along with puffing himself up to look bigger and such. They are 16 weeks old now and so I don't know what to think/do.
Suggestions out there for me?? Also, I am going to order from Reedy Forks Farms to see what the process is like and I will update you all after that.
I will be driving 45 minutes to pick up some feed in Raleigh (near Cary)...
I must MUST be crazy. For those of you interested they deliver to the KMart on Western Blvd in Raleigh. I don't know if that location changes or not. So...anyone out that way want to get together Wed??
!!
BHep - what auction are you going to? I might have to check out your auctions one of these days....so I can be further infected!!
HT - I'd LOVE to talk to you about getting a few of your older pullets, but I don't know if I could since I don't have a quarantine coop/separate coop for them...not sure how the integration process would work.
I won't even begin to think about how far away you are from me either!!
Today is a day filled with laundry and oh yeah...laundry and dishes.
I knew there was nothing good about taking a vacation...
Tomorrow...I start the graduation cake for this weekend. If you don't hear from me by next week...it's because I died from the cake!!
I will post photos of these 2 cakes once they are finished (assuming I remember to take the pictures....oops) Have a great day everyone...try to stay COOL!!
