North Carolina

Hi Miss Lydia~~~yep, I show them. No, she wasn't even here to see the Silkies, but of course, I always have some in the brooders in the house....and if you've never seen one "in person", you just HAVE to look....then of course you have to hold....then of course

you want Silkies....lol

Your yard sounds like mine, very little flat land, mostly slope. So~~~some of my flowerbeds are being converted to chicken yards one by one

Most of my yards are now totally chicken and duck yards. I use to have beautiful flower beds, don't know what came over me, now the animals own it all! really look forward to meeting you and seeing your chickens.

Miss Lydia~~I told my husband what you said about the only flat land you have left is driveway~~he just looked at me and said "don't get any ideas"

that man knows me too well

We had a bit of snow here in Johnston County (25 min from Raleigh) last night - down in the 20's. After we got the ice off the cover on the chicken's run, everything was as good as new. The girls looked so cute yesterday, taking in the sight of their first snow, while staying dry

Still on egg watch - any day now my Golden Comet and NH Red should start laying

We made a slight change inside the coop, need to update the picture on my page after I take a new one of the inside, but we placed a 2 x 6 across in place of the upper roost (the one they use the most) so they can get comfy and squat down and let their feathers keep their feet warm. It's poplar, like the coop and I treated it with two coats of boiled linseed oil to protect it and make it easier to keep clean. The girls seem to be loving it!

Love the snow pics nczoo.....it has snowed here for two days, but the wind has been blowing sooo hard who knows where the snow is?? Still snowing this AM. Lots of wild birds at the feeders (glad my husband keeps those feeders full)

Haven't ventured out yet to feed and turn out the Silkies. Thermometer shows 26~~but with the wind I'm sure it's colder.

You'll stay warm and safe.

Good Morning!! All In N.C. fine morning here 21 was the low with around 3" of snow and still spitting some. High yesterday of 28. My dh just left with the 4 dogs for what he calls a walk about. I know I know I am going to put up a heat lamp in the chicken house today it will at least keep the place around freezing. I'm a whimp about my babies. Most everyone says don't use heat even in Alaska but I just can't help it. The wind was really blowing here through the night but is very still so far this morning, Welcome Bryson city and love those pictures nczookeeper! Hello Franklin, Burnsville here. Ya'll all have a great day and stay warm. Now I just have to figure out a way to make booties for my ducks and gooses feet lol:)...............see what you did BC made me feel sorry for my chickies and now I'm giving them heat
