Went out to water the chickens again(every 2 hours) and everything is covered in a thick layer of ice. Even my new boots were sliding. The sleet changed to rain for a while. It is a whole 24 degrees, so it all froze.

The birds are not happy, at least the few I saw. Surprising how easily 98 birds can hide.

Its so eerily quiet here, everything is hunkered down, the chickens refuse to come out of their coops, the chicks are all snuggled soundly under their heat lamps, the extra rooster all roosting in the barn and the ducks are even sleeping in their lean-to house. I haven't heard a rooster crow all day or an egg song or a quack. Its too quiet!!

it rained/iced here for a while. now everything is covered in a layer of thin ice. the girls were all hiding under their houses looking at it like a monster was attacking them, for most of them this is their first winter. very unhappy girls.

IDK what is wrong with my birds...they were all out and about... Some have ice-sickles !! LOL

The ducks and geese ..naturally love this weather.

same here. had to grab the silkie and put her in a crate. she was a soggy, icy mess. the minute i grabbed her and she felt the warmth of my coat her eyes just closed. silly birds should learn to get out of the weather.... our ducks also think this weather is better than sliced bread.

Hubby called on his way home from work to ask about the weather here, as it was freezing rain there. Dry as a bone here...but before he got here the ice was coming down! We took extra hot water out for everyone, and put even more bedding down for the calves. They are well sheltered, though. Everyone seems fine. We shake our heads at the turkeys who walk around with ice on their backs and won't go indoors. Only one hen thinks indoors is a good idea.

I was planning on driving to Georgia in the morning, but I've changed my mind. I think I'll stay off the roads. I'd be driving morning and evening, rather than midday.

Had a little snow like stuff this afternoon, but it turned to ice real fast. I could not get into the shop due to the ramp being icy and all. let everyone out today, well they had a chance if they wanted to. The teenagers ran all over the property, like you would expect human kids to do. The older chickens that did go out all headed to covered areas full of dirt, sand and leaves, scratching and eating anything they found and stayed there til dinner time. Put out new watering bowls since their normals ones were frozen. Those stayed wet for the day with me refilling them every so often as the chickens drank like there was no tomorrow... Suppose to be warmer tomorrow but cold (below freezing) again during the night.

Everyone stay warm...
