North Carolina

moomoo, don't know if you remember us from this fall. my daughter and i traded a white silkie roo(Liam) for a white silkie hen, cotton i think her name was. She is doing great and went broody for a couple of weeks but is now out and about the yard with the rest of the girls. Hope Liam(roo we traded) is doing good.

hey yea i remember u liam is doin great its so funny cauze the other month there was a dead rat in our driveway that somebody had ran over so i took it to the chicken pen to give to them cauze chickens just love rats and all my other chickens except liam were fighting over it lol he is a true city chicken i think he may have been scared of it but i am planning on using him jn my paint project this spring good talking to u and im glad cotton is doin good

Okay, I'm about to be gifted with a silver laced wyandotte trio and I really don't want the roo, I think I remember someone on here has been searching for one?

Good Morning everyone!! I am smacking myself in the head!! Yesterday I had the unexpected surprise of a visit from the electric co-op (they were switching out our security light for a new LED light) and the guy who came was also a farmer. We probably chatted a good 30 minutes (he was asking about my Muscovies)...it NEVER dawned on me until 10 minutes AFTER he left to suggest checking out BYC!! He was looking at buying some ducks for his wife and couldn't find any - ANYWHERE!! I mentioned WCA - but then found out he's in Greensboro so I think that might be a bit of a drive for him. UGH!!

I really hate pregnancy amnesia!! Anyway, if you ever see a nice gentleman/farmer from Greensboro at WCA one of these weekends who is an avid bow hunter and just the nicest guy (even gave me pointers/suggestions on our barn placement and our cow choices, etc...)...it just might be him!! Found out that the cow breed we were thinking about getting has a LOT of medical problems due to the way it's bred to get the desired characteristics and are EXPENSIVE. Did some research...

$15,000 for a COW?!? Um...no thank you!! We have enough open land for ONE cow, but wouldn't she be SO lonely?!? (I know this is a chicken site, but some of you have other livestock) All I want is for her to give us milk so I can make cheese and have an endless supply of milk for our daughters (x2, possibly 3??). <sigh>

Chicken news: BEST sound ever...crowing in the early morning. Now if he would only crow during the day...I MISS that so much!!

STILL NO EGGS!! I am going to make up a big batch of oatmeal today...adding some dried kelp, cayenne pepper ACV, and flax seeds to see if that doesn't get things moving. DH is just about ready to run an electric cord across the yard and set up a light in the coop to see if THAT doesn't help either!!

I am almost out of eggs and I just can't bring myself to pay $5/doz when these girls SHOULD be laying!! LOL. Oh well.

Bone broth in the crock pot, chili & cornbread planned for supper, and our youngest goes for her doctor's appointment today. Praying we get GOOD NEWS and the concerns they had at her last appointment are gone and she no longer needs to see a specialist. That's my hope/prayer at least!!

Have a great day everyone!!

Do you remember his name and info? Maybe you can get it from the co-op? I am 20 min from Greensboro and would be happy to hatch him out some ducks or I can tell him about my friend who raises them.

Thanks for the info Matt and others. I guess I will give Dallas another season and if the hatch rate does not improve, off to freezer camp he goes and one of the younger Roos gets to step up to the plate...

another fake spring day. I am loving it but am really not ready to start a major project due to cold weather coming back. I will just keep doing the small ones..

Everyone enjoy their day...
