wow Hollow  is everything ok?
Yep, aside from half the property being black and hubby having inhaled too much smoke. We were fighting it until the FD got there, but it was moving fast, fast, fast. But no serious damage to any property, and hubby'll heal quickly. Scary, and close to too many things, but all is well.

glad to hear all is well and hope your DH gets better soon

Good Morning, Happy Chicken People!

Hubby is breathing normally this morning. My shoulders are sore from pushing and pulling muck tubs full of water about yesterday, but I'll get over that. We kept patrolling the place looking for any smoldering spot yesterday and during the night and this morning, but nothing to be seen. All is well. And I guess the grass will be greening up soon!

Off to work to torture the Youth of America.

Howdy everyone!  Got all but the gate done on the run today and have moved all the ladies out to the coop with the cornish x.  The back porch is so pleasant now!  Gotta still do some cleaning but it is wonderful having everyone out in the coop.  Anybody got any great ideas on how to do a gate for a run? Going to have to come up with something by Saturday... it is suppose to be like 60 !!!! I am so looking forward to letting everyone out to roam in the run.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!
take some pics and I am sure we can help

Good morning happy chicken people.

It. Hurts. To. Type! LOL....spent ALL day Saturday moving our HUGE pile of dirt before running out of supplies for our mock raised beds. Managed to make 3 rows (6' wide x 60' long) with only 3 more to go! Plus DH thinks we'll have left over dirt, plus a half palate of bricks (from when whomever built our home) so he's going to make me a little strawberry patch!!

I was NOT allowed to shovel, but I did rake the dirt into place, and put down all of the layers (cardboard/newspaper/etc...). I must say, that AND lugging children around makes me SORE! Good thing I get to work it off by going grocery shopping today!! LOL

No. Eggs. Chickens are tolerating being locked up...for now, but I haven't seen ONE egg in sight. We are doing a TSC run this week sometime and this weekend is set for a coop clean out and finishing the garden, so we'll see if anything is buried under all those shavings!! LOL.

Have a great day everyone!!

I am beat! sanding and prepping hardwood floors with a 4" belt sander is NOT fun!!! one room done and ready for poly, but my body is asking for a time out. On the hcicken front, none of the eggs annie was sitting on hatched :( I'm guessing she had laid them when it was real cold out and they might have froze being out in the elements before she started sitting. getting a few day olds to put under her is on the agenda along with sitting at work all day. Happy monday everyone

Morning all!
Picked up another EE chick Saturday, so that makes 7 total now. The lady who sold me the 6 felt bad that one has a deformed beak, so she let me come by and pick out another for free. She's kinda grey in coloring. She kept to herself at first, but is mingling well now. Put all 7 in a larger pen area in the garage. Still keeping the heat light on and pretty low so they have a place to stay warm since it's still cold in the garage. Checked on them several times yesterday and they seemed well. enjoying their larger quarters. Put a barrier up on one side so when we open the garage door, the draft won't be so abrupt.

I have one of those child gates that can be made into different shapes (circle, square, rectangle). Put a plastic, padded table cloth (plastic side up) on the floor to protect from the cold cement floor, made the gate into a big rectangle, hung the light in the center, added wood shavings to 3/4 of the pen leaving part of one side empty for the food and water (hoping to keep shavings from getting into the food/water feeders). Put some long branches across & through the holes of the gate for them to roost on and covered the top with some other child gates I had ( the ones that adjust from wall to wall).

They are about 1 month old now so I think they will be fine in the colder area as long as I keep the heat light on. Good to get them out of the house and feel better knowing they have more room. Think my coop and run will be just about complete this week. If the weather gets warm like they promise, might be able to let them outside for a while this weekend.

Have a great day everyone!
