Well...I ended up NOT doing diapers today - a direct result of a BYC request!! ;) So instead I cleaned my sewing room, let the girls sleep ALL day (it was a holiday or something for mommy!!) AND...... GOT MY FIRST DUCK EGG!! It was IN the coop, under the roosts, just sitting there....waiting for me! :love WOO HOO!! :weee Now IF ONLY the rest of the girls would find (and USE) that spot!! LOL
Yay for the duck egg and for mo rain yesterday!! We finished doing the hardware cloth on the run and the vent spaces on the coop. The girls are happily enjoying their new space. We will finish fencing the run this w/e, right now have the tornado warning and watches in the area.

I am DELIGHTED to learn that a neighbor one block away has managed to keep chickens in her backyard for over a year with NO one complaining, no legal issues....and I saw the coop and run for the first time today despite having walked past her house dozens of times in the past year..........gives me hope that mine, too, will stay under the radar

The worst of this storm has past us now. Pretty ugly there for a bit. All livestock, pets and humans are fine, and no big limbs or trees down here. I'll count us as side-swiped and lucky. I waited until it was past to go lock up. Levi went with me as always, and seemed to revel in the rain. Silly puppy. The heavy door on henhouse #1 actually blew shut! In ten years, that door has never blown shut! Some of my youngsters got trapped out in it, but they found shelter behind the rain barrel and its concrete block stand and none of them were soaked. The little brahma cockerel had positioned himself on the outside and got the worst of it. Or else the pullets all kicked him out! Regardless, they are all okay and moved back inside. I was planning on moving some more from JDC into the Big House, but that can wait until tomorrow!

Hope everyone this touches is as lucky as we were!

Well it rained all day here, and early this evening it began hailing, and caused a freak accident, one of the 2 Week old babies underneath my broody mama was hit and killed by the hail :hit :hit I am so sad as it was one of my favs that I couldn't wait to see grow up.

in other news my ducks Still aren't Laying :smack I think I'm gonna have to have the crockpot talk with them :rant

So sorry for your loss! That was a freak accident. The weather is bad here right now. I'm 15 minutes from the coast, so I've been waiting all day for this storm to get here. Hopefully we don't float away!
