my silkies will sit for 3 months straight if they don't get a chick

Wow! I have 3 silkies that I hope will set on eggs soon. They are coming on 5 months old. I'm not sure how big they are supposed to get but they are not as big as my other LF hens.

On the silkies......do they need a nesting box that is low to the ground? I have noticed that they don't get up on the perches and sleep on the floor under the nest boxes at night...???

So sorry to hear.

Hopefully someone will be able to figure it out.

Thanks. It is really disappointing, and frustrating. I've emailed someone who raises a LOT of Polish so maybe she will know.

Has anyone ever gone to any talks from the Sustainable Poultry guy? Just curious. He called me back about the chick but didn't know. He said he is doing a free seminar in Statesville next Saturday.....just on husbandry, small flocks, etc.

I had asked the same question on the silkie thread.... They explained that they sleep in what they call a "silkie pile" They mostly sleep on the floor in a pile or make a mini nest. We do have a perch in the bantam house for them that is only 2 inches off the ground so sometimes ours gets on it too.

:th been raining nonstop here since yesterday morning. hope those of you who are getting rain are staying dry, and those of you who are having a sunny sunday please send some sunshine this way :D.
In chicken news I have yet another broody :celebrate that makes 4 girls sitting on eggs and one girl is raising chicks :).
We also welcomed 3 new kittens yesterday. Our sweet little rescue Gracie apparently came to us pregnant. She had a smooth delivery and all 3 Babies are healthy.
Hope you all have a great day :)

Raining non-stop here in Morganton, too today. But we needed it to wash away the pollen layer. It's a nice excuse to stay inside after weeks of working in the yard to build raised beds, a coop and a run and a good rain always makes it easier to pull up weeds.
