Homers come back home and people race them. The others like rollers or tumblers do just what their name says while flying in air, they have competitions for that as well. Alot of others are for looks, and people show them. They don't lay eggs like a chicken. Coopscoop as a few and could tell you more if you need, but you can make a pet of them.

There's actually more meat than you'd think. I just have too many squirrels coming in and digging my potted plants and in my gardens. We have a few tenn. redbacks loose in the yard, but they know if they get in the gardens they're gonna be for dinner. My zucchini is also gigantic compared to everything else in the garden.That seems like a lot of work for a little bit of meat!

Your garden sounds great! My zucchini looks like it's on steroids, it's taken over the whole garden and 3 feet tall. Too bad that's all I have, darn bunnies have devoured my other garden! The fence that deters my chickens doesn't seem to work on them. Knew I should have kept them in the hutch, now I can't catch them.

A squab is about a pound before dressing, and has good meat:bone ratio, so has a good amount of meat on it. A lot of people free flight their pigeons, too. It's much cheaper if they can do some foraging. (Higher disease risk, though. they can bring stuff back to your chickens.) Once you've gotten them started nesting where you want them, they'll mostly hang around. They know where the food is! If you've ever fed city pigeons regularly, you know you'll end up with them on your head, in your lap, and in your way. You can easily make a pet out of a pigeon. Plus all the competitions. And show birds. I know next to nothing about shows and competition. Those are on the large list of Things I Am Ignorant About.

1. Yes they are carriers for life and can shed it again (without showing signs of any illness) if they come under any kind of stress such as transport etc.
1. I did have not added any new birds to my flock since December, so I don't know where we got it from. It can be transmitted by songbirds and ducks and turkeys, even though these birds won't get sick from it. If your postal carrier drives into someones yard who owns birds shedding ILT and gets poop on her tires and then drives down your driveway while the poop is still wet, then your birds peck at said poop, they can get it.
I might suggest that you send her body to the state vet or take her to your local vet to be sent for necropsy, at the very least, have a local small animal vet do a fecal.

Wow Toto, we definitely aren't in NY anymore. Do people actually EAT squirrel? I thought you could only do that if you were wearing a coon skin hat and holding a cane pole.
