Good Morning everyone! Our kids are done with school over here in Wayne County, now we just have a bajillion couple of work days. Hallelujah!

WCA was WAY TOO HOT yesterday, we didn't stay for long. That was my first experience of a chicken auction...

I wanted the little Polish Crested chicks...Hubs said NO! Guess we'll have to add on to our run...

Hope everyone has a happy Monday!

You came? And didn't introduce yourself? I think my feelings are hurt now. :(

Thank you SO much!!  I'm a bit nervous because she did hop off her nest last night (it's been warm enough, so no worries there) and I found only 1 egg under her, the rest were chicken eggs!!  LOL.  I took the chicken eggs away from her and gave her back some more duck eggs (not sure what the fertility rate is on those eggs as...well...I have never seen our drake WITH her personally, but have seen him with the other two ladies.  She is very sweet, but skittish, so I am going to have to see what I can do for a quiet area for her to lay...first I am going to give her a day or two to make SURE she's broody.  The bonus with that is I get a few days to figure out what to do, as my "broody pen/quarantine pen" is currently in use by mama and her 6 chicks!!  I think they should be old enough to mingle with the flock, but I don't know about sleeping arrangements IN the coop for them...I guess we'll see.  LOL  You mentioned oatmeal & rice...what about precooked oatmeal & rice?  Our drake LOVES the leftover cooked oatmeal...I usually allow him to have it as a treat (when my girls don't finish all of theirs) and he shares it with his ladies!!  Are you speaking largely of uncooked?  No turtles to worry about here (that I know of...LOL), but we do have a TON of fire ants!!  We have a "little" kiddie pool so I "think" they should be safe there...once I get DH to build a ramp or something to make sure they can actually get IN the water!  :fl   I do hope she stays broody!!  One last question...how do you sex them?? (something that would be good to know...JUST in case) LOL
What's that??  DH NEEDS to build me another coop, I KNOW!!  I need one JUST for ducks/other fowl and one for poultry!!  LOL

Have a great day everyone...  Those of you whose school is out or ending...ENJOY your summer vacation!!

Yes precooked rice and oatmeal I ok as long as it isn't going to swell up anymore in their bellies, and idk if u can sex them early on I usually just wait

I did -- No reason to have hurt feelings! I was trying to get my bearings, that was a very new environment for me. I was taking it all in AND being hot! I will certainly introduce myself next time. I kept telling my husband, I think -- but I'm not sure -- I am bad at introductions... please forgive me...

No worries! I'm not really offended. :) The first time I came, I hung out by the door for a couple hours and then left. I didn't even try to find anyone to introduce myself to. It was a pretty overwhelming thing to walk into unawares! Next time, we'll meet!

You mentioned a ramp going in the kiddie pool, don't forget to build one that goes OUT! When I was a kid we incubated a bunch of duck eggs. We didn't know that much about ducks, but I guess my parents figured the ducks would like a place to swim. We had a stock tank and put a ramp going in it, then filled it with water. The ducks loved it! We thought all was good and went to town. Unfortunately we came home to disaster. The ducks had a great time splashing around, a few got out and the water level dropped The rest were stuck inside the tank. Ducks can't swim forever, many of them drowned. It was very sad. That was many years ago and a lesson I won't ever forget. I don't want this post to be a bummer but I would hate to not say anything and then have something similar happen to you...

Happy Monday everyone. For the teachers and school staff, thanks for all you do through the year - enjoy your Friday on a Monday!

Is WCA really that BIG? I must get up there! Of course, now there is the added benefit of getting to meet everyone.

Not really that Big, just that packed. They really could use more space. Still, there were 400 or so lots that went yesterday, and that's nothing to sneeze at.
