If you could walk a turkey on a leash, I would be the one to do it!!!

We had a barred rock that would come knock on our slider with her beak and my daughter who was about a year and a half at the time would let her in and put her in her baby doll stroller and push her around the downstairs. The chicken would just sit there too, it was the cutest thing!
I would LOVE to have a pond! We're in the city now with my husband at Bragg, but I can't wait until he gets out and I can get my farm! There is so much I want to get!

Turkeys, peacocks, ducks and swans, my DH doesn't want any of it... I am still scheming. I don't care so much about the peacocks, although they are beautiful swans and ducks... can't really see the use there - they are messy. BUT, turkeys... YUMMY. I really want to raise a couple of turkeys. Probably not here as we would lose them to predators. Will have to think of how to work that out. I am sooooo glad that DH does not read these posts

Hollow, I can't believe you counted/tallied, that is a lot of poultry!

Have a happy afternoon, and be safe everyone, the storms are starting here!

Haha I didn't think of that at all, you all are so smart!!!
I think it would be fun to have a pet turkey :)
I really want some peacocks, but I hear they are very loud and need a ton of space
Peacocks are very loud. I have family in Miami, FL and their neighborhood is overrun with peacocks. The peacocks are protected so unfortunately they can't have they re-located to a spacious land far away from the communities. As for a lot of space, they are doing just fine living in a neighborhood full of houses (although you'll see about 30 at once in the trees, driveways, on top of cars, and houses, so they are a little pesky!) but as for noise, they are like guineas, but as far as I know, the peacocks don't seem to yell for a purpose! (Although some times I also question the purpose behind my guineas yelling...)

Oh- I'll post this separately on sale forum. I have some bearded silkies available! 2 white cockerels, 1 buff cockerel, 1 buff pair. Thought anyone in NC that is interested would see here too as its too hot to ship. All proceeds will go to junior silkie club program. I'll post additional
400
pics if interested.

Good Morning everyone!

Had a scare yesterday...something came up to the house and made off with one of my adult chickens. We were eating at the time and literally jumped from the table from all the commotion! Ducks were flying everywhere, chickens were running everywhere and whatever it was we didn't get a glimpse of before it ran off. DH took the gun out with him and immediately locked everyone up and did a head count. Sadly, we lost a chicken. He came back in to tell me the news and followed it with "maybe she's sitting on a nest somewhere"...What a sweetheart for trying to soften the blow. This is the second attack in just a matter of days - first it was the chicks and now this. We are going to keep them locked up for a few days while we discuss fencing options (in all honesty, can one REALLY fence a predator out?!?). We have wanted to fence the property in, but we were hoping to wait until we were able to purchase the field next to us (yes, we are STILL talking with the owner about that field...lol, at least he's talking, right?!?). I know this is a risk we take when we free range, but it was just a tad scary since whatever it was came up to the house...which means it could have easily taken/attacked one of our kids if they were outside. SCARY thought!! I'm open for predator proofing suggestions from those of you with experience and free ranging!!

Today is another doctor day...DH is praying that I get there and they tell me I am in full labor (no, I don't feel ANY different) and need to go to the hospital!!

The poor guy has NO clue!! He should have learned by now that IF I was to go into labor, it would be tonight - because he has a very long 16 hour day in store for him and if history repeats itself...my labors have begun between 10pm-12am!! No rest for him it what it would spell out!! Then again, he usually sleeps during the first few hours of it anyway

LOL. Officially 12 days left....12 days....

Have a great day!!

I know how you feel. I wanted to free range too. I thought the chickens would be healthier and happier. They were until last week when they all disappeared....6 chickens gone. Now we will be fencing in a run before I get more. I hope you don't loose any more to whatever is stalking your birds.
