Tammy, I never heard back from you on the chicks....

I have a bunch of pullet chicks for sale! These are RIR, Gold Comet(Red Star), possibly some Buff Orps in there and a few Barred Rocks. They are over a week old and doing GREAT.

$6/each(price will continue to increase with age)

Buy 10+ and they are $5 each.

I'm driving to Angier on Sunday, then I'll be out of the state for over a week.

tammy do a sreach on here for splayed legs it'll tell you how to fix them

Thanks! I did right after I posted. (duh, should have thought of that first)

Yes, sorry about that.... when you replied, I really was looking for eggs, not chicks.... I have been thinking it over. I am actually leaning in the direction of holding off for now and either getting POL Buff's from Hollow - pending availability as she had offered them to lizabeth. I currently don't have layers and am going crazy without my own eggs!

No offense Bunny, however I have never seen an Easter Egger (sexed) for less than 3.00 from a reputable hatchery (that has them available). Then you have to add shipping which works out to about a 1.00 to 1.50 a bird, if you are ordering 25 or more. Shipping is crazy high. Vaccinations are more on top of that. I sell mine for 6.00 ea. under two weeks old. Im not even the most expensive. I have seen some dealers in Holly Springs selling them at 7 and 8 dollars each. Just wait until you get that outside brooder set up. Mine is a 12 x 8. You will see why you have to charge. I average throughout the year (winter & summer), 50 dollar increase on my electric bill a month. I have to move alot of birds to make that up. I dont know about most people but I dont sell my birds to make any money. I sell my birds to have a hobby I love and break even every month. I take care of my birds alot better than most though, I dont skimp on changing pine shavings, cleaning wipes for the brooder, straw for the chick coop, dont buy the cheapest feed I can get, I vaccinate every baby bird, ect. Like I said, not trying to offend anyone. Just sayin....

Not quite 3 hours away. Are there any hatcheries/farms near you that have chicks as well? I am in need of chickens...the six I had disappeared

which is a hazard of free ranging. I could make the trip but would really need somewhere else to get birds to make it worthwhile. Let me know how many you want to share and how much.
Are you looking for chicks only? I have a few POL hatchery Buff Orpingtons I was planning on taking to the auction. I usually get between $15-$20 for them at that stage. I would sell them direct at $15. I am close to dutchbunny.
I am not opposed to POL. I bought one at a sale in April in Lincolnton....she layed one in the car on the way home. I wanted chicks to make sure they were handled a lot and got used to people. I love Orpingtons! I might be able to take two.

Lots of choices. Might even be able to bring in chicks from BHep and doubleatraining, if you want to see what they have. I often see them on weekends.

Looks like you have choices, if you want to make a three hour drive.
I drove about that far for my first chicks.

I tried to talk the DH into an eight hour drive for Lavender Orpingtons before....although I probably wouldn't really drive that far for chickens...probabaly. lol!

If Coop Scoop Boogie does not have enough olive eggers for you, I have olive eggers and easter eggers. They are 5 week olds so they might be older than you want...

Meg, I have been on the fence about buying POL chickens. Knowing how you are with biosecurity, I want some (4-5) of your Buff Orps if you have enough - I don't want to jump in front of anyone though!

Sometimes I think I have WAY too many chicks... then I remember how many other people have!
I have a coop ready for POL and anything that's already feathered out. My DH will freak when he hears me say that because he is currently digging holes for the run around the coop. Anything I have to put in my brooder needs to be close to the same age. I have had chicks several weeks apart in age together. I would love some OEs and EEs.

I get really nice EE chicks from Heidi at Newport Garden Center for $1.69. I get three every year and they're heavy birds that come in beautiful colors (I have a couple of blue wheatens [green legs of course]) and they lay huge olive and blue eggs, one of them even lays a blue speckled egg. They're great to cross with my brahma/orpington crosses, the babies from that cross are great meat and egg birds.

She sells her chicks for what they pay for them, so that you'll have a reason to come back and buy feed. It works for me, I once bought utilility orpingtons and EE's from Gaskills and almost had a heart attack when he charged me over $5 for each chick. I think that if I were going to buy birds from an individual, instead of a nameless, faceless hatchery, I would would be willing to pay up to $5 per chick, since I wouldn't be paying shipping.

Oh, I'm not offended. And I wasn't trying to knock anyone who sold their chicks for different prices, I was just saying what I see them sell for on average and what I've paid.
Ideal Poultry is $2.85 for small orders of sexed pullet Americaunas, 10 cents more a bird if you vaccinate.
They never even charge me shipping, just a $7 small box fee, which I guess goes to shipping?
An order of 10 Americaunas from them comes to less than $40 with them vaccinated and shipped so still under $4 a chicken. And you don't have to order 10, they have a $25 order minimum, no breed minimum which is why I like them. And all their birds are really healthy.
I'm the same way, my chickens are my pets. Haha I wish I could break even, mine are always a giant money pit, but they definitely are a lot of fun!
