With the talk about the d'uccles I just had to share some pics of our little ones...we just adore them. Priscilla was also pictured in the Fox News piece that I did last week :)

You just had to post pictures! I didn't even know what D'uccles were and now I want one. The hens are SO pretty. I like bantams...they are just the cutest things.

LOL! They are the most personable, curious, cute little things - I just couldn't resist

NH, take your list of breeds you like that are kid-compatible, find pics of roos of each one, then offer them to hubby to choose from. He chooses, and you don't have to.

You realize, HE is much MUCH worse than I am when it comes to liking "pretty" birds. LOL. OH!! I see!! The more he likes, the more we will HAVE to expand to accommodate all of the new breeds that he likes. You are SO smart Hollow!!

the white one looks like a rooster Sbrooks  how old? the brown one is a rooster

Both 6 months. I was asking because I had 3 others like my white one and sold thinking they were roosters but the man who has raised them all his life who bought them said they were hens!!!! I couldn't believe it! It doesn't look like a hen at all. The brown on is Butterbean. I thought it was a girl but I don't think so anymore.

Ok after thinking of something makeshift as a coop since my DA hubby burned the wood like an idiot...we have an old trampoline safety net...the kind with the zipper? But no frame or bottom. I drew this up curious as to what u all think just until I have more time to make a permanent coop

You see the thin long pointy orange colored feathers on the brown ones back, near the base of the tail down by the grey butt fluff? Those are saddle feathers, roosters get them hens don't. Take a sheet of any color of paper (besides white lol) and place the feathers one by one on it from the same area on your white bird. You don't pluck them off though, have your DH hold the bird while you do this. If they are the same shape, it's a rooster. You might have to do several feathers since young roosters don't yet have a full saddle.
