I am so, so heartbroken. A stray or neighbors dog (not sure since we did not get a close view of it) killed the overwhelming majority of my flock today. At first we could not find any then found 3 alive in the woods. I did have 23.

My silkie and my favorite are gone. I cannot find any signs of 5 of them. I was going to give up on keeping chickens but decided that wouldn't be fair to the ones that made it especially after what they have been though. I am going to further preditor proof my coop. I am practically starting over. This is so hard.

Don't give up

The cattle panels work great! Depending on how many you have....a simple 10x10 dog pen works great. Buckets work great for food and water. I use a hay bag for my girl's hay so there is less waste. Goat collars run $2.99 each at Tractor Supply. I don't have any toys for mine....I'm a bad momma. LOL

Kids run $75-175 depending on sex, color, etc. My girls normally have at LEAST 2 kids each. I'm not sure which does I'm keeping but will make that decision in the spring. Let me know when you are getting ready and we will get you some goats.

Please PM me on FB....I'm on there a lot more. :)

*squeeeeeee* So excited!! I will PM you on FB for sure once we get everything all planned out. :) Better start studying up on my goat care now....

Back to the chickens though.... weighed my girls today just because. I can't believe how much they've grown!!! I swear they've tripled in size at least in the last three weeks. Hard to believe they'll be 10-20x the size they are right now before long. Most of them weighed in at just under half a pound. All of them are feathering in nicely. The EE's are absolutely gorgeous - and getting "more gorgeouser" every day. :) My light brahma that's all black is finally getting her white feathers starting to come in. This is so much fun!!!

I FINALLY got all the birds dusted. Boy, I would hate to count them all. I never think I have many til its time to dust or worm them. Than after picking each one up, I think I have dinner set and a few extra to sell.

I am so, so sorry! I just went through this 2 weeks ago, so I know exactly what you are going through! Hopefully, the others are hiding and will come back out when they settle down. That is what mine did, although I still lost half my flock! Word of advice.... keep an eye out, because the dog will probably be back! The ones that were killing ours were coming back about every 3 days at least! You can take drastic measures to protect the rest of your chickens! If you need to chat, you can pm me!

I don't think quarantin will help since its in the mosquito population.
Quarantine will not help. It is spread by the mosquitoes and then through feeder & water-ers. Some may get it worse then other. Basically like chicken pox in human. The infected mosquitoes can travel 3-5 miles, I believe.
It will pass... :hugs
Thanks, all. I don't generally panic, but I do appreciate knowing what I'm dealing with. :/
