If my hen were possibly egg bound where should I feel the egg inside her? I feel something hard just past the end of her sternum but I'm unsure if they all have tht because the rest of mine are very plump and she's very thin even though she eats more than the rest. She acts fine. Doesn't act ill or sick. And is still a very cheery hen. Mind you this is one that hasn't laid yet even though she's going on 8 months now.

The sternum as is under the head and around the breast? :)

If she's egg bound, you should feel it in the vent, near the rear end. There are lits of good threads here on egg bound hens.

I'd be surprised if she was egg bount if she hasn't laid anything yet. She's probably just a late layer. She might have a hidey hole, too, if she's out.

If you can feel her keel bone sharply, you may think about worming her. Weight and body type vary from breed to breed, but if she's really underweight compared to others of the same age and breed, I would explore that. Good luck!

Hi newbie here! We are excited to on our new adventure and have just added four lovely ladies to our family.

I planned on getting 4, then I bought 5 more. That was 2 years ago. I currently care for 32! Lol! I am still a newbie too :)
