North Carolina

Well I finally got a deer! A young buck ran straight into the front passenger side of my van. That mirror is gone, the front passenger fender is dented really bad ( front passenger door don't open), messed up that window and the windshield, bent and moved the antenna, dented the heck outta the side passenger door (this one still opens), and small dents in the rear passenger fender and the hood of the van. Unfortunately he died, but his body wont go to waste.

Wondering how Kae Pasa would do pulling a buggy ????

At least you got the deer. The time I hit a deer it got up and took off. No chance it survived, but I had no way to go after it at the time. What a waste.

Sorry you didn't get your deer Matt. Took me a few mintues to find mine as it had still made it all the way across the road and up a pretty steep little hill. I found it in a pine straw bed of the house on top of the hill. I'm just happy the kids were not with me, as it hit on the side my oldest sits on. But my son wants to know when Bambi is gonna be dinner.

Just popping up to say hello. hope you all are doing well.
I haven't been on much, in the past two weeks I have gone from 102 birds to a little under 40. things keep snow balling down hill. I don't want to giva up all my birds, but I can't feed them I went from 140$ a week feed bill down to 50 a week and still having a hard time. everything just seems to be falling apart. and my depression is mounting and I'm losing my passion for my birds because I'm trying to distance my self so it doesn't hurt so much when I say good bye. :hit

sorry to come on here and ramble about depressions.

Well, we are just north west of Winston Salem. Does that help? We are currently trying to decide which of our 4 remaining cockerels to keep for our flock and to show in next years fair.

Thanks everyone that has tried to answer my questions. I'm gonna try and figure out the whole fermented feed thing! I just feel like I might not be feeding them enough and that could be a reason why they are not laying yet...

" I think I counted like eight diff categories there hun.

I know it's tough to choose. Why do you have chickens in the first place? Eggs? Meat? Showing? Just because they're fun? Once you can answer that, you can start thinking about which breeds serve that purpose best. Factor in the benefits vs. cost and you'll have it. There are very few breeds that I wouldn't like to have, but it's just not financially feasible to have that many chickens being fed. Moreover, the more breeds you have to breed the worse off your end product will be since you won't be able to devote the proper time to each breed for selection etc. Esp. with school, jobs, family and a human social life.

" Yeah.... there are quite a few different categories. I'll narrow it down eventually... It'll just take time I guess... Not going to make any final decisions until we get our coop situation figured out. We have the chickens mainly for eggs. We might do meat later on, and of course they're fun!

I'm so sorry! If it helps, I'm praying for ya. Things will get better - even Noah's flood came to an end eventually. :) Just ride the waves and wait for the rainbow. I'm sure you've already thought of this, but are you feeding FF? That's supposed to cut down some on food costs. Maybe free range them more? Have you checked out the raising chickens on a shoestring thread? They have lots of great ideas to cut costs on there. Might help. Hang in there!
