I agree! I saw dogwood blooming and cherry trees on my way to work yesterday and am convinced of the same! I think it is safe to plant cold weather crops like brassicas and onions but I'm going to hold off on the salad greens like spinach.
Threw some clover seed on the ground last week when it rained. Hope it sprouts soon
That's too funny! I think my turkey would do the same if given the opportunity.


Got two first pullet eggs yesterday! One was in the deep litter partially buried and I think is from my Barnevelder. The other was in a nesting box and I think is from either my EE or Ameraucana.. I'm hoping the EE because it looks more green than blue :/

Next to an average store bought egg for comparison. (I borrowed the white egg. I don't buy eggs for eating lol)

EE. Ameraucanas lay blue eggs only. So exciting to get eggs! {Even if you don't need them, lol)

im going I am bringing a splash silkie (4 months .hen ?) and a white silkie hen .. pet quality but pretty . and possibly nugget the teeny rooster that I don't know what he is ( thinking old English or possible a mix with serama) , but he is super cute and brightens my day each morning . he lets you hold him as well..so idk about him yet. im also rehoming a dog. I prob wont bring the actual dog (idk im gonna call and see if that's acceptable) but a pic to let ppl know she is a blue heeler / lab mix "labraheeler" they call it . 12 weeks old. strong herd instinct. killed my chicken . so I doubt people at a flock swap would be interested but u never know ! lol. .. I don't know what I may aquire while im there. I have one kid who likes silkies and d uccles and one that likes jap bantams that wants a pair of mottled jap bantams ? I have never even seen one myself.. leave it to him to find something hard to find to want. they want to show this year in some jr divisions so we are on the lookout o and I may get eggs to test in my homemade incubator I am making this week

I think Easter Eggers and Ameraucana's are actually the same chicken, hatcheries label them either way.
I have an Easter Egger I bought as an "Ameraucana" from Ideal Poultry and she lays light green eggs everyday (actually the bird in my avatar my son is holding).
The ones that lay blue are Araucanas and I *believe* the ones we have in the US are all rumpless.
I know from another Interational Chicken group Australia and Europe have a different standard on the Araucanas and theirs lay blue eggs but look totally different.
From the pic it almost looks like an Olive Egger, it looks like a dark green.

They are the same. I think it's Aracauna, but people say Americauna all the time.

In other news my black copper marans and Easter eggers have been hatching since yesterday. I don't know why they are taking so long, my previous chicks all hatched in one night. So far I only have one splash maran hope I get at least another one.

I know a guy coming that has mottled cochins idk if hes bringing any .. I can find out if u like

EE's lay any color of egg and can look like anything. Hatcheries sell these as americanas. Ameraucanas are a true breed that is muffed and bearded and lays only blue eggs and come in 8 show-able colors (project colors like the lavender are in consideration for being admitted to the APA Standard). A few hatcheries have started to sell true ameraucanas, but want like $14 a chick.
Araucanas in the USA are rump-less and might be tufted or clean faced but lays a blue egg only and are also a true breed. As far as I know no hatcheries sell true araucanas.
