One of my new lavender birds was carried away over the weekend. All I have left is a pile of feathers in the yard. There are times when I really dislike wildlife!

We're on the upswing-adding to the 40 lf; 14 bantams, and 11 guineas, I got 6 brahma pullet chicks; we hatched out the 3 SSH/cochin bantam babies, and since last night, 5 out of 8 community (total lf flock mixture) chicks have hatched under our lone BR.

No idea if the last 3 will do anything. Honestly, I'm surprised anything hatched at all, given how awful my 4.5 broodies were.....:/

That's why I won't keep lavenders, even though they are awesome. They are a magnet. It's like putting a sign out that says "Please Eat Here"!

Sorry about your bird. I know you worked hard to get some.

So sorry about your bird.
We have lavenders and have been lucky enough to have never lost one
to a hawk but then again we do not free range birds. All are in covered
runs. We had two-legged predators teach us long time go that all chickens
go under lock and key in runs and coops.

Anybody else SICK of this weather? I swear I work at a grocery store and people go nuts! :( I mean it's not that serious. Lol. I'm sure you all will agree. I mean does anybody really need 6 gallons of milk? Come on! :) anyway waiting on Wednesday for taxes and payday. I Got that biopsy then too. I hope its nothing. :( I keep a happy face but I am worried. Anyway hope you all and your animals fair well in this winter wonderland out there. Stay warm!

. I go through about 4 gallons a week on average, sometimes more. And I don't even know how much cheese. I should have gotten into dairy cows instead of chickens

Yesterday was great!!! Was so nice outside.....completely cleaned out the coop, moved the feeder. I have the waterer with nipples that has worked out great. Then I had the feeder hung about neck high..which was great.............however,............it was hung fairly close to the poop board (I didn't think it was that close but it is a small coop).....Somehow, at least one of the ladies was sitting on the edge of the board with her tail hanging off!!!!! Now, the roost is back and above the edge of the board ! So I decided to just move the hook to fix that whole problem..LOL Went thru the sand, put in some DE in the sand run and even on the poop board. Got a lot accomplished and then had to apologize to the girls for it turning so cold again.. I did take them some warm oatmeal with raisins today!!

Shoot, I go through nearly that, and it's just me and hubby. Ok, mostly me with the milk. I love milk. But even I don't lay in a week's worth for an NC winter storm. It just isn't going to last that long!
