Is there such thing as a standard size breeding with a bantam like a silkie? Because he's fairly good size..  Might could hold his own with my GLW or RIR

Yes this happens with mixed flocks and some people purposely breed them. The mother is usually the bantam. If you know where he hatch you might be able to know what he is mixed with.

We; it really doesn't matter except for my curiosity....and haven't been dealing with chickens for a year yet..except when I was a child... Love the therapy it provides me to sit and watch their personalities. LOL A lot I don't know even though I've really tried to do my research as much as possible..

Never got a roo because I didn't want to get into the little chickies.. but this one was given to me and I have always thought frizzles were so cute!

ramirezframing also tried to help and gave an answer. I know lots of
frizzle crosses are done with cochins but other breeds can be used as
well. No matter what was used he is a pretty roo.

Thanks, being my first, I hope I can win him over....but I do need some sunshine to be able to give him some more room. He's in a bigger pen now but needs a run

Here's my chicks while they were still outside. These guys can't stop eating, i picked one up and it was really meaty.

The black could be scabs from them hitting the comb on something or getting pecked on the comb. I must admit, I have accidentally made a comb or two bleed a little bit while trying to catch a bird that decided to run along the wire of the cage and they hit their comb on the wire. A lot of times it doesn't take much for the comb to bleed. But I would suggest looking up fowl pox so you can tell the difference in peck scabs and fowl pox scabs. One thing you can do to see how well the birds have been taken care of is to ask when the birds were last treated for mites/lice and wormed.

The black in the combs could also be frostbite. It has been a very cold winter.

I have been hearing a humming sound. It started about
a month or so ago.......softly......almost hard to hear but
has been getting louder and louder with the passing of
time. This humming has been getting loud enough to be
noticed and I know what is causing it..........incubators!!!!
I hope all the hatchers are getting lots of chicks.......lots
of cute fluffy chicks

Good Morning, everyone!

newbie here. I live in Willow Springs, out in Wake County. I have six Rhode Island Reds. I'm becoming obsessed and have talked (re: worn down) my boyfriend into letting us get some more. I'm still new to chickens..heck..I'm still new to North Carolina! But I love the site and the forum is very helpful. Here are some of the ladies:

Do you have any pictures? With these hides do you feel safe leaving your chickens out all day? I am new to this and getting some soon so I want them to be as protected as possible!
