Okay guys, I need some moral support! I am being tested for npip tomorrow morning (less than 24 hours away!!!) and I am very nervous! I am relatively positive my birds don't have AI or pullorum typhoid BUT I opted in for the MG testing... I'm scared senseless because the lady I talked to said 95% of birds have it!! And although birds are still totally functioning as carriers I don't want to inadvertently spread disease by selling potentially infected birds!
So if my birds test positive for it then we do a quarantine but I'm relatively sure my birds aren't showing signs of it so we'll see what happens...
My biggest worry is two or three years ago I bought 6 adult birds from a flock swap and wasn't aware of the damage I could be doing by this! I also adopted a rooster from my parents around that time. So 7 adult birds from unknown backgrounds.. 2 were young white Cochin frizzles who either habitually dipped their nares into the water or had runny noses... I don't remember ever seeing color to it so I thought it was water but it still worries me!!! Ugh!!!
I don't have those birds anymore. One died from a predator and I sold the other because he was rude.

So yeah I am so nervous about tomorrow!!! I probably won't be able to sleep tonight!! Ugh!

Good luck...

Finally, we have some nice weather! I moved my three 7-8 week olds outside today. They seem happy in their new pen. Hopefully the weather stays nice enough to keep them outside! I am prepared to bring them in at night if it gets too cold again...

Good luck! I just did the Pullorum/AI. I DIDN'T do the MG. I'm paranoid about that stuff. I got it in fall of 2012, and had to put down my whole flock and start over. Over 100 birds. I opted not to test for it, since it's in the wild bird population and I free-range. What I AM doing is breeding for resistance. One sniffle and they are soup is the new rule. Haven't had to apply that rule yet, thank goodness. But I will if I need to! A friend of mine up in Maryland tested and was clean of MG, and Whitmore Farm in Virginia tests and is clean...and they free-range. I'd say your odds are pretty good. Make sure you let us know! Maybe I'll get brave enough to add MG next time around!

I think it will go down into the 40s tonight. But I've had 5 buff Orpington mixes outside since they were 4 weeks old and they been doing fine, I don't even worry about them when it goes down into the 30s anymore.

Thanks for the reassurance! Mine are buff orp mixes too (well, except the silkie). These were the first chicks I've raised so I figured I was probably being a little too cautious!

How does the Cumberland county fair poultry show work? I've read they allow hybrids, so I'm guessing it's just for fun mostly. Do they charge and entry fee? And do they charge for the blood test?

I want an NPIP test just to have one, but I'm afraid they'll turn me in for having more than 10 birds.
In my opinion meat birds, quail, ducks & turkeys don't count toward the 10!
My neighbors are allowed 13 dogs & believe me my birds live in wayyyy better conditions than them, they're my babies :)
