Hello ALL It been a wet year here, thought I had the mud issue under control then this last front made everything worse then ever. Guess I need to move the coop and pen, pen I can handle coop is another story might just build a new one.
Odd thing been going on last few days the girls been dropping eggs just anywhere, have dug 4 out the mud in the last 2 days. They kinda tore up my improvised layin box, went to layin in the corner of the coop now just out in the mud. Could it be there feet too wet and can't get back in the coop?
There a higher dryer area just next door, a lot I am buying, I would have to relocate everything. If I go ahead with that I guess the chickens could just free range for the day, but would this make it hard to get them in there new spot, and should I keep them penned in for a few days after that? It nice having them just right there in the back yard but I know they don't like there feet wet.
I guess it will work out somehow.

Do you think it would salvage the run if you brought in a load of sand? I know that drains well although with the non-draining soil underneath......you might have to put in at least 6" and I don't know the ins and outs of soil drainage.

I just figured that it would be what I would try if it were mine and sand is a pretty cheap way to go if you had a truck bringing it from the company ...not thru a landscaping co.

This goes to ppl in the vander/eastover/Stedman area there is someone stealing chickens . so if you have chickens I would put a lock on ur pins justed in one night I have had five chicken stolen from my pins three hens an two young roos

I have thought about sand, but the logistics make that not a good option. The easy convenient location for getting to the pen from the house makes moving that much sand near impossible.

I thought about calling you but haven't[/COLOR][COLOR=800080] thought to ask for your phone number and I also read enough to know where you were! The only thing I had was my phone and my mind wasn't in good enough shape to type out the details of what was happening. AND... of course when we threw everything in my bag, I forgot my charger for my phone.. BUT,,, there's one in there now that will staty in there! My dh helped to take care of the 5K... that's why he couldn't stop and get the rest he really needed to heal... of course there's always the tax deadline of the 15th....Just a small thing[/COLOR]   

[COLOR=006400]But I'll tell you what****  there's nothing like being in a situation where you can't take care of yourself, like getting to the bathroom which was 5' away and sneaking over there only to find myself so tangled in wires that you can't get back!!    And of all times, instead of having the other wonderful nurses....I had the one who.....well, let's just say she must not have been having a good night..!  And I had to call her to unwind me from all the wiring and listen to her fuss about me getting out of the bed to begin with. !!  yuk! But when I woke up...dang...I had to go and I didn't have the time to call her![/COLOR] [COLOR=800080] [/COLOR]

He's a cutie, though! <3. We were driving out, but I thought I caught you out of the corner of my eye. It's always a push to get things set before I leave. I'll FB you my # so you'll have it.

I want healthy birds for dual purpose of egg laying and companionship.

Tractor Supply will have chick days come spring, and lots of smaller feed stores will have them as well. I tend to order mine from a hatchery in NM, even when I order through TSC.

If it was me, I'd wait until spring. Day olds are going to require heat for the first 4 weeks unless mama is with them. Heading into winter would be concerning for me without adults. You could brood them inside, but that is not a long-term solution for me because of the huge amounts of chicken dust.

And, unless you get them locally and pick them up yourself, hatcheries are going to require large minimums because of the time of year {colder temps}.

If you are not completely set up, I'd take the time now to get ready for spring. Hard to wait, I know, once you've been bitten by the chicken bug....

Been having so much trouble getting the BYC app to work this week... I *think* it's working now?
Wanted to say to @InvertedKitty that I will be breeding French Black Copper Marans and Olive Eggers in spring. Right now I'm trying to source a great FBCM rooster (my only one got killed by a weasel or raccoon at our old place) I got some show quality shipped eggs and the only one to hatch happened to be a girl! Good problem to have I guess

Also, does anyone have a duck(s) that roosts at night? I keep finding my khaki campbell drake on the lower and mid height roosts!
