I'm the bird mgr at the house, but out of the area and the wife is filling the gap. Anyhow, our 7 month old golden retriever caught a six month old Australorp hen. The hen lived and nothing is apparently broke. She just has land locked herself in the coop, but move around with ease.

The wife didn't check her for holes. What do you recommend if she has holes, or if she doesn't? BTW: they were secure. She decided to fly over our 8ft fence. We will trim the wings when I return.

I use Blu-Kote on wounds. They sell it at TSC. It might take her a couple days to get over the shock. Hopefully it's nothing major. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help.

Remember to trim only one wing so they will be off balanced.
Glad the pullet is okay. On wounds we use blue kote if it is a small wound and
triple antibiotic salve if it is a large wound. Blue kote will dry the skin edges
of the wound so is not the best choice for larger wounds. Give her some quiet
time and area to heal for a day or so and she should be good.

Is anyone here around the New Bern area that raises meat birds and does the processing themselves? I have been raising chickens for eggs for a few years and I have finally decided that I would like to raise my own meat birds, but I lack the know how as far as culling/butchering/processing. I was wondering if anyone might be interested in showing my husband and I how or maybe even letting us pay to have the processing done for us.

We have used YouTube videos to teach us how.

Any NC people looking for Roosters? We have Australorps and French Cooper Marans. I would hate to eat them but if we can't rehome them then that's what's going to happen

Hello All, I live in the Raleigh Area, and Im relatively new to raising back yard chickens, and when I say relatively new I mean new to raising them in the city.. (cities are way different then the mountains) Do any of you use your chicken poop for fertilizer on plants? when would you put it in flower beds? in the fall?
